Has anyone else had a problem after installing the latest .NET update on Vista. NextPVR seemed to start ok but an exception box poped up when I tried to do anything. The Recording Service would not start and when I went to look at the Windows event log that would not start either showing a "MMC could not create the snap-in" error. On a Technet forum .NET was suggested as the cause and I had just installed some updates for .NET. I reverted to the Restore Point created by Windows Update and everything works. My client computer works ok with the updates but the NextPVR server fails if I reinstall the updates. I will try to repair or do a clean install of .NET tomorrow to see if that helps.

Bugger me i did almost exactly the same thing but didnt realise it was .net that caused it
I had done a few things with decoders as my mp3's wouldnt play
SO i gave up trying to figure it out and did a restore
I was running out of time and recordings were due and to keep peace in the house i needed a quick fix

I couldnt be sure it was the same but it sounds very similar

I just completed a rebuild of my setup using Windows 7 (was on XP) and did the .Net update today. No issues here.

I'll fire up my old XP NextPVR machine and see if it works with the .Net update.

I still had tuners in my XP machine (lost some PCI slots on the new MB) so I just fired it up and let it pickup where it left off with recurring recordings. I had no recording problems all weekend on XP (or Win7) with the latest .NET updates.

My NPVR Server and Client were not working for most of the weekend because of the .NET problem and had quite a number of failed recordings. I arrived home Saturday night to see a message on my NPVR server which said that it had recovered from a blue screen crash. NextPVR didn’t work and on checking found the latest .NET update had been automatically installed again, which is not how I usually setup Update. Having tried various things I used the .NET uninstall utility to revert to the basic Vista setup which is .NET 2 so my NextPVR server worked again.

My NextPVR client also now started having problems and was very prone to crashing when you “Skip” while playing a recording. However I have a Vista and an XP client neither of which have been switched on recently so don’t have the recent .NET update installed and both work as normal. I again used the uninstall utility to return Vista to basic .NET 2 and the client ran reliably. I then gradually added single .NET updates testing playback at each stage but was unable to force a crash until the latest 29th Dec update (KB2657424) was installed. I was able to force several “Not Responding” crashes so uninstalled just the latest update and I now have a reliable NextPVR client again.
