*hehe*

A lot of useful information, but ...

NPVR can read <filename>.jpg to display coverart for a moviefile. <- everytime and anywhere a good thing, highly usable
NPVR can read folder.jpg to display a folder graphic. <- everytime and anywhere a good thing, highly usable
NPVR can read fanart.jpg to display another wallpaper in the background. <- this works good, if every movie is in it's own subfolder

Are there more styles which NPVR can read to display pictures or informations?

For example:
Can i use a lot of fanarts within a folder where a lot of videosubfolders are? So that everytime i scroll through the library i got a fanart for the current selected folder/movie? re-Barr mentioned something like <filename>-fanart.jpg, but this doesn't work.

In first instance it's not too much important if we can get material automatic (thus thumbgen could do a good job too), it's more a question: "what is possible". Blinky, Candy, dandy ... i love such eyecandy.

I'm hoping to deal with the sub-folder issues in Videos+, so that fanart/metadata can be displayed before moving into folders, and full DVD rips can show up at the same level as single mkv files, etc, but it requires some tricky pre-parsing of folders to "know" what they are before you go into them. Easily fixable with a database solution, but I don't want to do that yet. Things are complicated enough as it is Smile

I really wish it did this without having a movie in it's own folder. <moviename>-fanart.jpg would be great.

One of the last builds of GB-PVR did this.

Yeah, i believe it. But if it were too simple, where would be the fun? ;D

In case of skins there is another small thing, which is a bit "stupid".

If you're browsing through folders without "folder.jpg" or "<filename>.jpg" you'll see a standard graphic:
If you're browsing through folders WITH a graphic like mentioned above, you'll get something like:
Take a look near the circle behind the transparent white background. You'll see the shape of the default graphic.

Would it be possible that NPVR just disables the "default" graphic if it found a graphic? A half solution would be just to rename/remove the "folder_vid.png" from default skin, but then i wouldn't have any icon for the "[..]" part of any subfolder.

Yep, i would second that.

Sorry i stand corrected. I had been trying the <filename>-fanart.jpg around that time and it didn't work for me either. it is just <filename>.jpg that I got working. Forgot about the folder.jpg. That would be nice for some things. In GB-PVr it seemed like the fanart would stay up until something replaced it. So when you first started it up you had the default background but once you had a danart pop up then you never saw the default background again. Which i was never sure if I really liked that behavior or not. The way it disappears now makes more sense but leaves it with less of that pop. Especially if most stuff is in the recordings section.

I think we need an official statement from sub how we can get/display pictures related to music, movies and so on. Big Grin

I dont have any prepared info for you. Was there a specific question, that doesnt require me typing a novel? I've posted info in the past, including xml formats.

I dont have any specifc recommended sizes. It'll resize any artwork it finds to match the space on your skin (which depends on your resolution and any overscan).

You should be able to use a tool like Ember Media Manager to generate bling for video files, or Martin's imageGrabLite.

I dont personally do a lot of music, but it'll try to display any embedded cover art it finds.

Nah, the recommended sizes should be easily to find out -> depending on the used resolutions.

My question is more like:
What files is NPVR looking for. Most of us have found a hint here, a tip there ... the thing about fanart.jpg i have found accidentally by reading McBainUKs post. Smile

So, at least for me, an info like:

Video Library can read:
<filename.jpg> to do ...
fanart.jpg to do ...
<filename>.xml to do ...
folder.jpg to do ...

I tried already searching the forum are reading the wiki, but somehow there's nowhere a complete list which files NPVR could read and use for "bling".

In case of resizing pictures: Is it just "filling" the screen, throwing away any aspect ratio or is it fitting centered to screen, matching aspect ratio of the original picture?

Hi there I have just switched from 7mc and was running mediabrowser and was woundering if some thing like that was posibale. I do get some fanart and folder.jpg up but before npvr I played with mediaportal and xbmc as well. So I had set media center master to use nfo and tbn files as well and I'm not sure were I'm getting the fanart from just yet. I do plane on playing with it a bit latter on affter I get things set with comskip and my remote working. The bling is all that is missing for me but I can live with out it but if it is posibale one thing that might be nice would be to have the show or movie info or plot come up. Then I think you may run in to the problem were it becomes to much load on the cpu for chacing witch is why I stoped useing 7mc in the first place well that and the .wtv file formmat. If I can lend a hand when I get up and running I will do so but an app you may like is stark covers for now it will spit out a folder that looks like a dvd or blu-ray case in a .png file that would be named folder.png and would add a bit of the bling you may be affter.

For general cover type artwork, it centers the image in the available space, showing it as big as it can in the available space while maintaining the aspect ratio.

For fan-art, which acts as a background, it'll display the picture at the top of the screen, filling the entire width, and using the correct aspect ratio. This means depending on the aspect ratio of the image, the artwork can be cropped at the bottom, or in some cases may not extend to the bottom of the screen.
