There is another experimental interface along the same lines, which can be enabled remotely using <AllowRemoteTranscode>true</AllowRemoteTranscode>

http://<ipaddress : port>/transcode?channel=12&resolution=320x240&bitrate=256k

Non-supported though....

Yes, if the like of Microsoft, Adobe etc can't keep their software hacker-free then it is difficult for a small developer to ensure security never mind the time involved.

Sorry if it's wrong to necromance this old thread, but issue is the same.

I'm just wondering, transcoded streams can be enabled, but not full quality ?

also, to add security, NEWA automatic ask for username/password when accesing from outside, how about adding the same for streams?

ex:
Code:
http://username:password@serverip:8866/live?channel=XX

As mentioned above, there is an alternative /transcode url that can be used to give transcoded versions of the stream, using ffmpeg for the transcode. Unfortunately I've found ffmpeg to be unreliable though, so I've never publicized the feature. It works great some times, then other times ffmpeg drops out because it doesn't like things in the stream. In summary, the feature exists, but don't count on it working well, and I won't be able to help you if it's not working well Big Grin

It wont ask your for a username/password when you try to access it remotely, but by default it'll reject remote requests. You can tweak a setting in config.xml to enable remote access.

I understand, but what I was wondering was the full quality stream, not transcoded. Looking at the config file there seems to be an option for that aswell, gonna try that now.

The <AllowRemoteStreaming> setting applies to both full and transcoded streams.

I'v been struggeling with this transcoding for a while now, there are lots of stumbeling stones in this river so Iv' found that the easiest way is just stream the unchanged stream, even if you are a bit short of bandwidth it seems to work well enough for remote recordings provided you set the post padding large enough.

Also, given we're talking full bitrate transport stream, and since pretty much no one has an internet connection that could these sorts of bitrate...

I'll add an option for the next release.

One way to mitigate the security risk is to restrict connections to whitelisted IPs or IP ranges. It's pretty easy to set this up in Windows Firewall (shocking), and it does work in conjunction with the NextPVR web server.

The bandwidth requirements aren't too crazy. I just tested streaming a 1080i60 stream to a computer that's off my local network, and it was only using about 12.8Mbps.

Anyway, this is a great feature. Thanks!

great feature indeed, I absolutely love it, I can stream my tv in full quality wherever I am. I have however not been able to get the unsupported transcoding to work, if I got that working I would also have to option to stream to my mobile. Not something that is very important to me, but maybe I will try more to get it working later.
