Just upgrading from 2.3.6 - terminated the running services as described and install went smoothly :-)

However, when I go into "setting" and tried to re-scan the channels it terminates after locating a few channels.

This is with Freesat on a NOVA II Plus under XP + sp3 + updates.

Any ideas ??

I have not tried installing patches as they didnt seem relavent.

I also tried deleting all the old channels - it didnt help :-(

One of the posts suggested a clean install - tried that and it didnt help.

TIA

Have you installed the Windows XP DVBFix patch in the past?
If so you have reverse it to do a scan & then re-install it after scanning for recording.

I may have done for 2.3.6 - but I de-installed 2.3.6 and did a clean install ... would that have not got rid if it ???
How can I "reverse" it ??

De-installing 2.3.6 wouldn't remove DVBFix. If you do have DVBFix installed, you'll likely have a 'dvbfix' dir in the root of your C drive.

There is no DVBFIX directory anywhere on the system.

There is a bug in the PsisDecd.dll file in XP SP3 that causes it not to work to well while recording but many users have reported that the newer file IS needed for scanning. That dll is in a MediaPortal patch called DVBFix http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/thread...s-xp.6344/ but you may have applied it separately.

The real solution is to upgrade to Win7 and avoid this Microsoft created nonsense.

Marin, I am in one of my moods Wink

The "real" solution may not be to upgrade to Win7 as often on this forum we are doing things on a limited budget...

And anyway how does Win7 avoid this Microsoft created nonsense? Win7 is Microsoft?!

I think what may be needed is something a bit more helpful on the wiki regards the PsisDecd.dll file and XP users?

cheers

To a point I have to agree with steeb on this. One of the users I help out recently did upgrade from XP sp3 to Win7 after reading how it was the answer for NextPVR, this included new PC hardware. It has caused all sorts of problems with tuner driver compatibility etc. that he is still trying to work through by now replacing tuner hardware with current (current for how long??) tuners, I hate to think how many $ he has shelled out now & in a years time it will be "old" hardware.

I maintain the best solution to the DVBFix install/reinstall hack is avoid it all together.

"New" hardware? Sure Win7 won't support all XP hardware but that would be ancient hardware now, and it is stuff that the h/w vendors haven't supported or sold for five years or longer. I do agree if you won't to continue to use it, XP would be a better choice.

This discussion is not helping softfoot though & I suspect his problem is not the PsisDecd.dll problem as he used to be able to scan with 2.3.6, but I may be wrong.
