What I did find when testing - I think up to about 10 SD Channels (from 2 Mux's) - was that my Samsung F3 1TB would record with no problem as long as you did not try to watch any recordings at the same time. As soon as the hard drive started reading and writing at the same time there were glitches in the recordings.
I can transfer between computers with an F3 in each over gigabit at in excess of 70mb/s so the 10-12mb/s of 20 Freeview SD channels should be no problem.

it's possible, just not with more than 6 hd homeruns. You could use internal or USB tuners for the rest.

by the way, why do you need 20 tuners for this? I only see 7 physical channels (aka "muxes") in your log, which could be handled by 4 hd homeruns.

Channels are still channels here
A mux (multiplex) is just a grouping of up to 10 channels on the same DVB-T frequency. Most, if not all, regions have 6 muxes broadcast.

rhui_bc, assuming you have the HDHomeRun drivers installed, on the devices screen you probably see your HDHomeRun devices listed two way. You'll see them listed with the type 'HDHR' and description like "DCR-2650 / HDHR Prime ...". You'll also see them listed with types 'DVB-T' and 'DVB-C' and a description like "Silicondust HDHomeRun ....". You should be using these latter 'DVB-T/DVB-C' devices. The 'HDHR' versions are only intended for use with DCR-2650 and HDHR Prime, which are used in North America for receiving CableCard channels.

As the guys mentioned above, you'll then get the benefit of multi-record, where 3 HDHomeRuns could simultaneously record every channel on the 6 UK DVB-T broadcast frequencies.

well, the confusion comes from the fact that we tend to use the word "channel" to describe both a single "tv channel", and a broadcast frequency or physical channel which of course now includes multiple tv channels in a multiplexed stream. I always have to resort to typing "physical channel", when actually "mux" is probably a better term (and certainly way quicker to type). Maybe I should just adopt that term, and let the other yanks on the forum figure it out. Of course then the term mux evokes confusion with recording muxes... .ts mux, .dvr-ms mux, .mpeg mux, etc. But since npvr only has one recording mux now, that may be moot.

UPDATE: I managed to get the channels to show up properly under DVB-C, and am now able to record the muxes properly using 1 hdhomerun!
