What decoder would you recommend for AMD? I know nVidia has their own, right now I am just using MS-DVD (or whatever it is called). Thanks!

Its not quite the same as the analogue problem I had. My old analogue card which I use to record video from my cable STB was marking everything 4:3/60Hz and there is no setting in the driver to change the default. DVD Patcher was recommended and this tells you what the current format is and enables me to change things like the aspect ratio or frame rate. I have to post process all recordings from this source after which they play as normal recordings.

You win the prize (of my thanks)! It was the decoder, I switched to Cyberlink and that took care of things. I may put my old 9800gt in the HTPC and try nVidia's decoder as well, but now things work the proper way! Thanks again!

EDIT: New question, can F7 be assigned to a button on a Media Center remote or Harmony Remote? I do not use the keyboard as my primary input.

F7 on the remote - yes.

Start here:

And here:

Takes some reading, but pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it.

Quickest way to add just one key is with a registry edit, if you are comfortable with that. Works great.

Also, you can look for the MCE Remote Mapper program, that lets you do it in GUI fashion.

thanks for the info. The Cyberlink Decoder was causing my setup to crash, so I switched back to M$ DTV-DVD and it works now, not sure why, weird.

I am using the MainConcept decoder for mpeg2 and the Arcsoft video decoder for H.264. If I remember correctly they came with my HVR-1600.

Ah, I bought my two 1850's off ebay for $20 a piece so I didn't get any software with them. They are also the OEM version that don't have the AV capture in or the FM tuner. But I don't really use those inputs anyway.

I don't know if you can download the needed files or if you need to purchase a disc with the software online or directly from Hauppauge.

I got the remote programmed. Thanks! Do you have to disable Windows Media Center to keep the Guide button from launching it? It brings up my EPG in NextPVR (with my content playing behind it, which is sweet), but it also launches WMC. I am guessing I could disable WMC in Programs and Features, but I don't want to somehow disable my MS-DTV-DVD decoder.
