And thanks for the PDVD* settings screen. I am now able to watch Avatar with an average of about 35% CPU usage and a core temp round about 60C so should last for the duration of a movie - fingers crossed.

I had to change a few merits around to get the HAM decoder to load but it appears more crisp than the dxva decoder so probably the EVR Custom Presenter is less of a wish now.

Yup. I love the HAM decoding... better picture... less CPU...

Thanks for the work that you have put in to this - what is next selectable subtitles?

Not just subtitles. I have complete stream selection in the works... video (if needed for whatever reason), audio and subtitles. I just needed this part done so subtitle selection would work.

After that, I may revisit creating my own subtitle filter. I would create it so that subtitles would be displayed similar to the OSD. One benefit of this would be that subtitles would then be skinnable (font... location... size... etc.) Another benefit would be that it should not add near the CPU overhead that DirectVobSub does since it would not be decoded as part of the video.

I thought bluray subs were bitmaps? Surely that means they wouldn't be skinnable?

They are bitmaps but I've seen programs that extract them to .srt. Hopefully one is open source but I can always just run my own OCR on the bitmap.

SubtitleEdit is the one I've used. Its OCR is good, but obviously not perfect. Avatar was the worst one to do, as it has a yellow italic script that it couldn't OCR very well at all. I ended up typing in the forced subtitles pretty much by hand. The actual PGS subtitles were extracted with mkvtoolnix (but that's because I'd already ripped to mkv).

If you can just display the bitmaps that would probably be much easier. They're far far higher quality than the ones from DVDs.

Simple to do and will probably be the first version. They get converted back to bitmap for display in NPVR anyway. The font won't be skinnable but the position would be.[/quote]

Looking good. I'll try to give the original stuff you've posted a go tonight. That'll be with the Microsoft decoder for AVC stuff and the MPC-HC one for VC1 (I think). Both with hardware acceleration.

I had very limited time in the end, but managed to install and register ok, but no subtitles appeared (was testing Star Trek III). Tried with never load, and load on demand. Will try again another time and get some logs and stuff too...

Are there forced subs in that movie?

The next build will give you the option to switch subtitle streams and it definitely works.

Yep, it has quite a lot. It was a tricky one to extract the subs from when I mkv-ed it (don't worry, I was testing the original disc) so maybe I should try something simpler next time.
