PC power on useing RTC for recording n then power off after recording

thought of this... a function in the program record scheduler which will set the RTC(real time clock) in the motherboard to power on the pc maybe about 5 mins before recording starts.

and when recording is finished. if there is no recording for let's say the next 10 mins, it will set the RTC time for the next recording and then power-off or hibernate the pc.

sounds cool? it will save electricity bill.. :-P

It already does this.

It doesnt do this, but you can easily achieve it by setting Windows to hibernate/standby after 10 minutes of inactivity.

I would also like the recording service to put the machine into standby, although I'm not sure how it would know that it was safe to do so. My machine never seems to want to go into standby due to inactivity. Had it set for 10 minutes and half an hour later it still hadn't switched to standby. Wasn't using the keyboard, remote or anything. Anyone know what may be preventing my machine from going into standby (it's set for S3 mode)?

If you have a wireless keyboard and mouse, some of these have been known to keep machines awake.

I've been playing with my Bios and I've actually gotten it to go to sleep now BUT only when GB-PVR is not running. I've set it to standby in 1 minute (to test it), when GB-PVR is up nothing happens. I close GB-PVR down and then one minute later the machine enters S3 standby.

I will re-test this with some other .NET app just to make sure that it's not .NET itself thats the problem.

Is there any reason why GB-PVR may be preventing the machine from going to sleep?

Nope, not using Live TV - my machine is not powerful enough to handle that. The program is being left at the main menu and I'm not using any infra-red or wireless devices.

I guess I'll just have to interface with the scheduler or access the recordings database and instruct the PC to go into standby at a reasonable time.

Have you got the recording next panel on the main screen running?

If I have that in the skin I'm using that's enough to stop my machine going into hibernation as it accesses the GBPVR database every so often and hence keeps the machine awake

i have done it with CMosTimer ( http://www.boraxsoft.de/CMOSTimer_eng.shtml ) for my pvr, but that depend of your computer because it acces directly to the bios with different memory address...
I shutdown the pc in the postprocessing.bat file. hibernate doesn't work because of "recording next panel on the main screen" which take too cpu for my computer ( P3 1ghz )

Ah! I do have the recording next panel turned on. I'll try turning that off once I get home and see if that fixes it.

Try setting the logging level to error instead of verbose. This can sometimes keep the machine a awake.
