Ok, after more testing, Subtitles are not displayed when using the Cyberlink or ArcSoft video decoders. They do work with LAV, MPC and Microsoft. This however is not acceptable to me so I'm looking into plan B.
The strange thing is that the DirectVobSub OSD works just fine with those decoders.
I have been trying with LAV Video decoder and had forced subtitles working (Once I looked in the log - reread the first post and installed to Program Files/NPVR/Plugins not Users/Public/NPVR/Plugins :confused: ) Unfortunately as soon as Vobsub is loaded by DVLoader LAV Video drops back to software rendering (Actually hitting 100% on both cores quite regularly and 115C in about 20 seconds) both in Native and Copy Back modes.
Looks like I may have to uninstall for now. But I will definitely be looking out for your subtitle plugin - twill be a very valuable addition.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives
Nope, still nothing. Tried with Star Trek III again, and also Avatar.
The logs look like it's loading ok, but nothing is displaying on screen. I've not included it here, but there was a "Removing filter DirectVobSub" shown in the graph once playback was stopped.
@imilne
Did you enable subtitles in the LAV Splitter - forced subtitles only, in the dropdown list got it working for me with LAV Video decoder - in avatar 11 mins from the start Grace and Norm talk in the local lingo with forced subtitles.
@whurlston
I have been looking around it would appear that Vobsub sits between the Video Codec and EVR and always breaks DXVA
I believe that necarvell is writing support for subtitles in the LAV Video Codec at the moment which could be a way to go - but a subtitle renderer (Blu-ray & DVD?) that ran in subs OSD layer and wasn't Codec Dependent would be really useful

Hmm, I'm really not sure. Probably not would be a good guess
Yeah, forced subs must be enabled in the LAV splitter properties.
The next release will allow audio/subtitle selection and it will hopefully eliminate DirectVobSub altogether (which means I'll need to change the plugin name). I'm getting close to decoding the presentation graphics stream from the LAV splitter. I'll be able to display subtitles as an overlay so it will not affect video decoders at all.
Nope, still not a sausage. My settings were as follows:

I don't recall ever tweaking those settings, and they also appear different from how they are on another machine when I loaded it up for a quick look. They're actually blimming confusing; I don't see how the options in the drop-down list relate to the PGS ones - which ones take precedence? Are they linked or independent? etc...
(I'm not expecting you to answer that...just having a mini rant )
Ah, now we're cooking with those settings. Thanks! Some of the subs are appearing at the wrong time, but that's obviously LAV being a little wonky rather than anything you'll have done surely. I've only briefly tested a single disk at a single point (probably an AVC one) so I'll do some more tests when I get the chance.
