Can you use more than one channel list for different locations? E.g. there are two towns / homes (with cable TV, DVB-T etc.) where you have the same Notebook and you want to record / watch TV, each town has different channels, frequencies so you would need to make a channel scan in both towns. How could you use, save the two different channel lists?

There's no really good way to handle that. You could scan the channels in at both locations, and then use channel Groups (Settings->Channels->Groups) to create a channel group for each location, but the groups are only used with the TV Guide (Alt-G or the Green button on the remote to select the group) and have no effect on previously scheduled recordings.

As this is a notebook which uses USB tuners, if you were to purchase a different tuner for each location (a different model that is, so that NPVR would see them as being different), then plug in the tuner at each location, NPVR would automatically only use the channels on the tuner that is present when NRecord starts up. Just think of each tuner as part of the house...

If some of the channels are common between both locations you can merge them in Settings-Channels (just hold the control key, click the channels you want to merge, right-click on one of them and select "Merge"). Then NPVR will understand that it can access the same channel on either tuner, and will automatically use the one that is available.

Combined with channel Groups for the TV Guide, it might actually work pretty well; you just have to make sure you get two tuners that use different drivers otherwise NPVR will just see them as the same and it won't work.

Many thanks, johnsonx42

Many thanks for the good ideas. Actually I would like it to just have one TV-Card.

Yes, external TV-Card, USB-Stick.

May be it is possible (I assume, there is no portable version available of NPVR, that would be to handle easily) to install a second NPVR, which would work independently from the first one (same registry entries? Same folders?) , may be in another directory, seems to be possible as I see, which could be used at the second location. Drawback would be to get the settings / plugins (second installation, also) synchronized, so the same work twice.

I occasionally take my laptop to another location. I have two versions of npvr.db3 - one for each location. I rename them depending on which location I am at. The recordings screen only shows recordings for the location I am currently at, but I have my recording dir mapped into my Videos library so I can watch recordings from the other location.

Not very sophisticated, but it works for me...

I have done this and it seems to work quite well. I just make sure I have <AutoRemoveMissingRecordings>false</AutoRemoveMissingRecordings> so that the database doesn't clean itself of missing recordings.

Many thanks, yes, good idea, I will try it. May be you could automate it by using a bat file, e.g with AutoHotkey, so one could exchange the npvr.db3 by just clicking a bat file or so.

Many thanks, again.
