Sorry if this isn't the best location for this post.

I was wondering if any of the Plugin Developers are interested in creating a DV plugin. I'm not a programer, so I have no idea how much time and effort this would take but I would help any way I can.

I'm looking for a "simple" plugin that would allow users to display DV camcorder footage, connected via 1394a, though GBPVR, and pass the transport functions, play/rrw/fw/stop, from the GBPVR interface to the camera. It wouldn't even need a skin (like the stock DVD plugin).

I'm not interested in capturing (although that might be nice), Just playback.

Anyone interested?
GBPVR Server:
AMD Sempron 3300+, 1gb DDR, 100, 200 & 500gb HDDs, DVD -/+RW PVR150 RETAIL, PVR150MCE.
GBPVR 1.0.16, SKIN'S = Default Blue, PLUGIN'S = None

It would be very, very nice if it would be possible to capture DV footage through a plugin and let the hardware mpeg encoder on my wintv-pvr150 convert it to mpeg2.

I am looking for a solution like this because i want to transfer my old video8 tapes to my computer and use my dv camera for streaming it to my computer through firewire. I guess the best way would be to let the hardware mpeg2 encoder on my wintv board do the job (if that is at all possible).

I don't think my programming skills will be sufficient to achieve something like this, but you can all count on my help if needed.

Unfortunately this wont be possible. The encoder on the PVR150 can only encode video from tuner/composite/svideo. It is not able transcode video that is already on your machine, or comes in using a different mechanism.

I had the same thought but you cant. The PVR series cards are not "general" mpeg encoders they can only process signals that are directly conected via coax/s-video/composit inputs. You can still connect your camcorder to the analogue audio and video inputs on the PVR card. The quality is pretty good. I have read some debat over the benifit of a mpeg hardware encoder vs 2 pass software encode. I cant say I see a huge difference, except for time, but I'm encodeing my home moves at lower bitrate's to maximize the time on a blank DVD.

Keep in mind GBPVR may not be the the best app for camcorder capture. Your better off with WinTV 2000 or other App's.

Sub, do you agree?

I tried the capture through s-video, and on the computer i don't see a significant difference between the captured s-video mpeg from the hauppauge and the avi captured through firewire.
Burnt to dvd it looks pretty good on TV.
I still have to try to software decode the avi captured through firewire and see how that looks on TV/DVD compared to the s-video hardware mpeg capture.

Thanks for your input.

Ok, I'll guess no one is interested. But let me know if anyone changes their mind.

Thanks
