Currently in the channel settings panel/page I get a list from 1..N along with the current schedule for each channel as well as their call letters/name.. For us here in the LA area, via OTA antenna, I can get almost 150 channels via a channel scan from our HDHomeRun dual tuner box. Unfortunately most of the channel names are unfamiliar to me except a handful (e.g. ION, qubo, LWN, -- outside of the typical NBC affiliates,etc).. Many are either religious stations, hispanic, shopping, chinese, armenian or various other channels we either don't understand or are not interested in otherwise.. It would be awesome to add a new column there to include the channel number similar to that shown below in text only :

Existing way :

.
.
55 KCET-HD SchedulesDirect
56 KCET-2 SchedulesDirect
57 KCET-3 SchedulesDirect
.
.

New/Improved way :
.
.
55 28.1 KCET-HD SchedulesDirect
56 28.2 KCET-2 SchedulesDirect
57 28.3 KCET-3 SchedulesDirect
.
.

Doing things that way would make things EVER so much easier to weed out the stuff we're not interested in -- since we know that all of the 18.x channels are out for instance (there are about 10 of them) .. Last night I must have spent about 1 hour digging through the internet trying to find the appropriate channel mappings and had I known the actual channel #'s that would have saved me about 55 minutes in that one session alone.. Please.. Please Please!!? Thanks!!Big Grin

A possible problem is that just about every other country does it wrong and doesn't use channel numbers in the form xx.y --- Big Grin

Good point, let's put adoption of US-style channel numbering on the world's wishlist. Smile

+1.. I suspect there are other bits of info available that would be helpful in lieu of just a channel name -- even for those peeps outside the US.. Am I incorrect in that assumption?

What I do know is that when we use SageTV and their s/w snarfs up the channel list from the HDHomeRun tuner I only need to whack out the channels I don't want -- there must be sufficient meta-data (for lack of a better term) to help out the user regardless of location.

+1 if it includes the request is to allow the decimal in the channel number http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...provements as shown when I scan on my TV. This is not just US only it applies to us up here in Canada too.

Can you get where you want to be by creating a group that includes only the "good" channels?

Part of the problem is not knowing what the good channels are.. Our channels break down into the following groups (here in the Los Angeles area) :

Channels that pass the channel scan but are not strong enough to watch (various) -- should be deleted from the channel list
Channels that pass the channel scan and are good enough to watch (broken out as follows)
  1. English
  2. Non-english (armenian, spanish/hispanic, japanese, chinese, vietnamese,filipino,korean, etc)
  3. types are further broken down into these categories (roughly) : regular, religious, infomercial, shopping, music videos, news, (and hybrids of course) etc

The biggest issue is figuring out the type of content based on the channel names -- Only a handful of the channels returned by NPVR have call-letters (e.g. KTTV) but instead have given names such as Tuff TV, CornerStone, KTN, AOTV, IAVC, ICN, G&E,etc).. I can deal with the call-letters as they appear in this list -- those I'm familiar with but these other names listed earlier (AOTV, KTN, ICN,etc) I'm not familiar with as SageTV and others don't show that stuff so I have to go digging around or try each channel to get an idea of what sort of content it provides.. Hope this makes sense..
