Currently in both NPVR and also using the XBMC plugin, I notice that my channels are not sorted by number but by name -- so in my case I've got KABC first (channel 7 locally) and then about 2/3rds through the list I've got KNBC (channel 4) and somewhere between the two is KCBS (channel 2).. Is it at all possible to re-sort the channel list by numeric channel number (e.g. as shown below :

1) KCBS (channel 2)
2) KNBC (channel 4)
3) KABC (channel 5)
...etc...

Just wondering.. Thx!

In NextPVR's TV Guide screen you should be seeing the channels in channel number order. Is that not the case?

in settings->channels you need to give each channel the number you want to use; that channel number is just a logical reference, and controls the sort order (I know of no way to make the channels sort in any other order). Like you, I prefer cbs on channel 2, and nbc on channel 4... but since when is KABC on channel 5? don't you mean KTLA, fellow so. cal resident?

Johnson- yes, my bad -- KABC is channel 7..

Sub - yes, I see them in the order in which they show up in Settings->Channels -- but that order is incorrect for everything I've ever watched TV on in the past here in the LA area. KABC (channel 7) is the first up and then it has LWN (LiveWell Network) and it's cousin -- another LWN and then it moves into some small stations (don't recall the exact lineup)..

So, I can actually edit the number or do I just drag them around to re-sort or change ordering? I don't recall seeing the option to update that number and am not sure I tried dragging one up or down the list.

Odd, mine always support on channel order. Did you check the number that show on the file in Settings->Channel->Details. When I edit that it repositions it correctly.

Ok.. You've got me.. Somehow I must NOT have noticed the dialog box that allows the number to be modified in this screen:

Damn! How did I manage to miss that MINOR detail! Sheesh.. I guess these 12+ hour days at work are starting to take their toll!

When I get home I will see about re-ordering the channels!! Thx

if you're wondering, the original order you had is the order they appear in the channel scan. In our area, the broadcasters have abandoned the VHF-Lo channels (2-6) because they're hard to receive cleanly and require too much broadcast power, so the physical channels start at channel 7 (VHF-Hi). The traditional channels 7, 9, 11, and 13 actually do broadcast on those physical channels; 7 also carries LWN in both HD and SD, while 13 carries also carries an SD feed of 11 and a channel called Bounce which is sort of like another BET. The old VHF-Lo channels CBS-2, NBC-4 and KTLA-5 now broadcast on much higher UHF channels.

when you scan for channels, one of the scanning choices is "USA ATSC CH. 7-51"; that's a list I created for use in many US TV markets where channels 2-6 have been abandoned. Channels above 51 are also no longer used for TV, and it also skips channel 37, as that has always been reserved (for SETI I think).

Thanks.. Good to know the background.. I had toyed with the reduced listing.. I was amused to find the Filam channel (#37 or something in the lineup) (filippino stuff) for my wife listed there -- although I don't recall seeing that when I did the channel scan w/ Sage 7 months ago.. Oh well..

What about sub-channels (2.1, 2.2, 17.2, 17.2, 17.3)? Is there an option to just use the channel / subchannel values as channel numbers (either automatically or manually)? This would sort them appropriately and make more sense in the UI than arbitrary values. For that matter, does the channel number have to be an integer, or will it allow decimals (17.3) - If not, would this be an easy change?

I looked at the database and the channel number appears to be defined as an Integer. It doesn't look like they need to be a contiguous set of numbers though so assumedly in my example above I could use 21, 22, 171, 172, 173...
