Hello NextPVR's,

I have been trialling NPVR for a couple of weeks now and despite XBMC's (PVR) shortcomings I am really impressed. Multidec is a revelation compared with getting encrypted channels working with Mediaportal, streaming live HDTV across my 200mbs homeplugs is glitch free and I like NEWA.

However, because I've been testing the quality/robustness of the TV server I haven't invested any time in sorting channels and the EPG and I'm just wondering if there are any shortcuts? In Mediaportal a couple of developers have created brilliant plugins that organise all the Sky channels/groups and grab the EPG, I don't think there is anything similar for NPVR but is it possible to copy someone's channel list file or do I have to manually configure it?

Also, how are UK users getting the full Sky EPG?

When I had a DVB-C card I used DVBGuide which gives access to the Freesat EPG.

Since all the channel/group information is stored in the database I don't think you can copy someones channel list. However, setting up channel groups is fairly easy, just go into Settings->Channels->Groups, create a new group and name it, then drag the channels you want from left to your group on the right.

Yeah, I know the process is easy but with approximately 800 channels its laborious, maybe I've been spoilt by Mediaportal.

Seriously, how many of those channels are you actually using?

According to Kingofsat there are 747 TV channels at 28.2 E of which 347 are FTA. If you remove the regional variations for UK channels and the shopping, foreign and "minority" channels you are left with 30 to 50 real channels.

I think my tuners pick up 785 channels (I have the full Sky HD package) but in reality there are probably only 50 channels that are actually worth having but its still a pain having to manually sort them Big Grin .

As I mentioned in another thread recently, I'm probably going to improve the channel grouping stuff in the next release. What changes would you suggest that would make it easier?
