It can with digital tuners. It doesn't with Colossus/HDPVR/Analog tuners.

Quote:BTW, when does NPVR assign the tuners? I thought it was at recording time. Not correct? I recently had an issue with a tuner failing to start and NPVR then looked for another tuner with the channel, found it, and made the recording.
It does a provisional allocation of tuners at scheduling time, so that it knows it has enough tuners for what the user wants to record, but it can often use a different tuner at recording time (for example, moving a recording to another tuner when it failed to start on the first one, or moving a recording to another tuner to let a live tv session continue, or moving a recording to another tuner to allow both to have padding, etc).

With the exact configuration I outlined? I doubt that very much, seeing as even sub confirms it as an "edge case." But I would also very much like to be completely wrong, and hear how your setup works fine!

I picked North America specifically because very little of our TV is FTA DVB or OTA, compared with Europe or the Antipodes.

Will do! I'll do some testing tomorrow (almost bedtime now) and post one or more logs. Thanks (as always) for the quick reply and the troubleshooting. Just knowing that the 2xColossus configuration *should* work is a big relief.

I live in Canada, and think my setup is close with an HDPVR and an HDPVR 2 (temporarily offline because of HDMI being blocked by Rogers) and an ATSC and a QAM tuner, and you certainly don't speak for me either. While sub may laugh at my comments and suggestions, my intent was not to support your comments. I think NextPVR is a good program but there are many little things keeping it from being great. What can I say, I happen to like watching the first 10 or 15 seconds of a show

Not to push this thread too far to the technical and developer side, but what about the Colossus/HDPVR makes them unable to write two streams out from the same channel? Is this something that pressure on Hauppauge from users could fix? Or is it a limitation of the encoder chips they use, say? Just curious -- and willing to prod Hauppauge, if that's what it takes.

Sub explained it already http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post445483 it's not Hauppauge.

There is nothing that would need to be done by Hauppauge. I can implement support. The reason I haven't to date is because it was of limited use (compared to the same with digital tuners), and it was relatively complicated and was going to be time consuming to implement support for, and I had a big list of other things that I decided would benefit more users, so I just haven't done it. Its not to say I wont implement support for it in the future though - I just haven't done it yet.

OK, sub, here's an nrecord.log file that I think shows an instance where two back-to-back shows should have been recorded with padding, but weren't. ("Income Property" and "Disaster DIY" -- and indeed, any shows that sounds builder-y or real estate-y -- are on HGTV Canada.)

I just took a quick look through the logs now, but the reason didn't stand out for me. I suspect it may be related to the channel being the same. ie, if it had been a recording on ChannelA from 9:30-10:00, and another recording on ChannelB from 10:00-10:30, then I suspect it would have used two tuners and had padding on both (assuming the second tuner was going to be available for that whole time).
