When using DVBGuide to grab my EPG data, I have to use version 0.9.5 or lower, I can't use the latest beta as this uses XMLTV 1.1, which causes NPVR to bomb out with a nasty error message (detailing it doesn't support 1.1, but in a very technical fasion)

I'm not sure what the benefits of 1.1 are, however it would be good if it supported the file format so that we can keep DVBGuide up to date (as the guy is dealing nicely with the new FreeSat changes)

Zip and attach your xmltv file, and I'll check what NextPVR doesn't like about it.

As requested, I have attached the XMLTV xml file, 7zipped up (normal ZIP just didn't cut the filesize down enough!)

I think it's the following line that's actually breaking things:

Code:
<?xml version="1.1" encoding="UTF-8"?>

It turns out the only real difference is that XML1.1 allows for different line endings (to be compatible with IBM mainframes) and also allows UTF8 characters to be used within Element and Attribute names.

Not entirely certain why he did this though :|

Yeah, this is nothing to do with "xmltv 1.1", but rather "xml 1.1". I don't know why the author of this utility choose to use xml 1.1, but I'd ask him to change it back. Microsoft's XML processing libraries refuse to load this file, so I'm guessing they're incompatible with a pile of apps.

This is the first time I've come across an xml 1.1 file in my long career.

His specific comment on it is:

- Changed output XML versions to 1.1 to allow full range of control codes

But I'm not sure what would be meant by control codes. I assume they need the UTF8 support to stick them in the file, but I dunno what they are.

I haven't had a chance to try one of these files (other than knowing from a while back that they were not working with my post-grab utilities), but I guess changing 1.1 to 1.0 in the header isn't enough to make them work again?

Yep, I'm guessing changing the header is probably enough. The xmltv file format doesn't use UTF8 in the node and attribute names, which already well defined English names.

Yep, as you say that seems to work. I've not fed a file into NPVR yet but it looked ok with one of my little programs.

Anyone know how to use awk - that stuff is black magic to me Big Grin

I have to admit its the first time I've seen an XML 1.1 file in my career too! I could write a small app to rewrite the header, but to be honest I'll try contacting the developer first.

Close this thread for now as its not a real issue.
