Some Recordings cannot skip forward or backward

On a recent install on a nettop with amd e450 apu. most recent version with the patches applied. worked out all tweaks except that on some recordings when played back through npvr i cannot navigate forward or back. i will either get paused screen or blank screen. the same resulting files will play fine on windows media player or through xbmc. it seems to happen more when i have had two recording at the same time, but it has happened on a single recording. I have tried both lowering and raising the quality setting, with no apparent change. i have also tried a number of different codecs for the playback but none made any difference. the file will play linear and will pause and resume play.

the storage drive is a recent wd portable 2.5 inch 7200rpm drive connected with usb3. i plan to switch to my ssd that houses operating system to troubleshoot further.

If anyone knows of setting in the xml file that i ought to try or any other fix, please let me know.

Zip and post your logs from an attempt to skip while watching, and some of us will take a look.

thanks for trying. looked at logs already. only one that changes is npvr.log; and after testing a file it only has this. i am forced to stopp playback as it is just black screen; no pic no sound after skip. no key can make it resume. log shows this:

only shows a keypress calling for change of position and events after closing recording. i will troubleshoot a little more. maybe alter the transcode settings slightly in config.xml.

If you remove the TVListings plugin and try playing it from Recordings, does it work? Can you zip and post the complete log from that attempt? What decoders and rendrer are you using?

t is the same thing, it will play, and pause but will not skip. log file attached; starts at 19:56

i have tried with every codec i have which are microsoft,lav,ffdshow for the video; and ac3filter and later lav for the ac3. the audio under each is set to passthrough on the hdmi. i uninstalled ac3 before using the lav as per the instructions in the codec pack i used from these forums.

again, the files play fine on xbmc on same machine and on windows media player; it is only about 1 in 5 recordings the others are fine. they are not recordings where i was watching while recording.

You didn't remove the TVListings plugin, with it active it is impossible to determine if the error is in the plugin or in NextPVR. Another thing is that the LAV video decoder does not handle skipping very well, very often it will just freeze after a skip. Try the PDVD12 video decoder.

I did remove it; maybe i sent you an earlier log. i will remove the logs and do it again to make sure i get the right log. but i have done it with every encoder i have. i will switch the encoder to microsoft remove the plugin and send you that log. i appreciate the help.

If you play the file in Media Player, do you lose the ability to skip as well? (Skip to end then try to skip back)

This usually happens to me when there is a glitch in the stream. Most of the time, the glitch will occur during a commercial break when it switches between the local and national feed (like a commercial for the local news). It used to only happen on my Fox affiliate but lately it's been happening to me on NBC as well (only noticed on Grimm so far).

I have to run the recording through VideoRedo or VLC to fix it (remuxed back into another TS container).

If you can narrow down the point at which FF/REW stops working, you might be able to cut a chunk out so we can take a look at it.

It probably has nothing to do with the TVListings plugin, but it is still active. To get rid of it you can simply rename the filder containing the plugin and add an _ in front of the name. That way it is easy to get it back if it is without blame. You could try to run the recording through TSDoctor /there is a trial version that works for a while) to see if there is any errors in the recording.
