OK...here I am again....You guys on this board care about the things I do...sorry if this is somewhat off-topic post.

Shortly after my last post -- just my luck --- one of my PCH A110s started to die. It is locking up randomly now...and more frequently.....where only a power cycle can recover it. It is on it's last leg. But it has served me well for many years.

Question: The combination of MVPMCX2 and PCHA110 allows the NMT to handle .TS streams much better (more robustly) than native PCH playback. This is how I found this forum, with the help of Martin long ago on the SageTV forums. This is when I was having all kinds of trouble with .TS streams off my cable tuner.

Now I have to replace the A110 with something else. I know the new A400 and even earlier models don't support MVPMCX2. So my question to you all is ---- are the new PCH boxes like the A300/A400 better than native A110 at playing back .TS, and .M2TS streams? If they are improved playback of transport streams....then I won't need MVPMCX2 as much.....and can deal with NFS mounts off my NPVR directory to play everything instead. I will miss native NPVR on the MNT but can deal with that problem.

I really appreciate any advice......of what Media Streamer is the best these days at playing back .TS streams from video. The ability to playback .MKV and other common containers and formats is very important too. But I am zeroing in on the one weak point of the A110....its transport stream decoding performance/robustness.

If you would buy a media streamer today....which would it be?

Thanks everyone for your help and ideas...and happy holidays!

Warm Regards

Jim

Researching this stuff a bit. It seems PCH has really been shipping junk with the A400. Also, Realtek based players perhaps can play transport streams better than sigma?

What do you all think of this player from Micca?:

Expected some feedback by now.......is everyone either still have PCH A-1X0 out there....or perhaps everyone else migrated to a HTPC running NPVR natively and abandoned NMT type devices for now?

Searching has let me to another player.....which seems to have better integration with network shares, plus native jukebox capability. THe Mede8er players:

Looks like comments and input may be sparse here.... I will continue to pursue this. I will find a .TS clip that plays on MVPMCX2/A110 and fails on native A110, send it to these guys to see if it works on the MED600X3D. It is nice they have a good support forum....a good sign.

If anyone is interested here....I will post my findings. Please let me know.

Unfortunately transport stream playback hasn't be a priority for player manufacturers, so there isn't really any great devices we can recommend.

I've never heard of these Mede8er devices. Let us know how you get on.

Thanks Sub,

Much appreciated for your help and perspective on this matter. I will post a reply with my findings on this Realtek based player (MED600X3d). But based on Martin's response, and your comment --- I am not getting my hopes up too high.

I decided to take the easy road...and found a used A110 on Ebay for a reasonable price and stick with what works well MVPMCX2/NPVR. I wish I had the Mede8er to play with...but time/effort is limited right now.....and don't want to be without.

Thanks everyone.
