Currently if I mark a show as watched in XBMC it doesn't really get marked watched in XBMC or in NPVR. Will this be an upcoming feature?

I'm not familiar with the feature. Where do you mark it watched in XBMC?

I've not noticed anything in the PVR addon API related to this, so it might be some internal to XBMC thing.

You bring up the context menu when you have an item highlited. Then you choose mark watched. I wasn't sure if this is an add-on thing, a core XBMC thing or NPVR thing.

I tested it a little more and noticed the following:
Mark show as watched. Quit XBMC and then re-launch it. The show will now show as watched. It will not show as watched until you exit XBMC and restart it.
Nothing watched gets synced to NPVR.

I just want NPVR to know what I have and have not watched. I assume it keeps track of such things so as to not re-record a show I have already seen.

Unfortunately I don't think XBMC passes this info to the addons, so I can't pass it to NextPVR.

NextPVR doesn't use what you've watched as a factor in what it'll record. It does keep a list of what you've already recorded though, so that it's no re-recording shows you've already recorded. Whether you've watched something in XBMC/NextPVR won't effect this though.

Okay. Thanks for clearing that up. That brings up a side question then. If a recording somehow gets deleted before it is watched, how can I tell NPVR to record it again?

The watched flag is by filename though, so that it is not the same in TV Shows as a path + filename and via the PVR interface which is something like http:/ip:port + live?recording=####. I now watch everything via TV Shows which has the advantage of comskip and I have just started using a My SQL database to sync this across my XBMC machines. I used to play via X-NEWA to sync up my NextPVR database but I rarely use NextPVR client to play files so it isn't that important.

The watched flag in NextPVR isn't used for recording purposes, make sure your duplicate history is longer than the default. I've got a wishlist in to allow a new recording type that will help too so that the delete files stay in the recordings table after they are deleted but sub hasn't responded to that one yet.

How are you watching thru TV Shows? Are you using some sort of NPVR addon that adds the proper season and episode numbers to the filename? Without that info XBMC will not scrape the show and therefore it will not show up in the library. Since NPVR really doesn't use watched status for anything expect user info I would rather use TV shows and access all my archvied shows as well as recordings from one screen.

You just need to find another occurance of the specific episode and record it. NPVR only considers the already-has and recently-deleted lists when scheduling automatic recordings; if you explicitly tell it to record something, it will.

I'm still coming to grips with the difference between Sage and NPVR. I appreciate all the info from everyone.

Yes, I use my imageGrabLite that does two things, in parallel processing it creates the appropriate NFO file and if it has proper season/episode xbmc will pick that up for playing in progess, and it post processing it renames them with S#E# info or names the movie with the year and creates a good moviename.nfo
