Backup channel settings?

I have a DCR-2650 currently setup with my cable provider, and tomorrow I will be switching over to another provider to try out the tv service there, so I will be getting a different cablecard. The channel lineup will be different with this provider, and I would like to backup the current set of channel settings, in case I decide to go back to my original provider.

It appears all this information is in the npvr.db3 file, is this correct? Is there any easy way to backup the information I want, that could be restored at a later time. I'm a programmer, so if necessary I am willing and comfortable going into the database and exporting tables, but it would be useful to know which ones.

Just take a copy of your npvr.db3 file. You can always restore the file if you decide to go back.

Thanks. I figured there might be something in the npvr.db3 file that would get updated that I might want to keep if I went back, but I guess I can worry about that if I actually do go back.

I've gotten the new card and everything seems okay so far. But it seems to have some channels left over from the old card. What's the best way to clear all that out and start over with the new channel lineup? If I remove the device and restart, will it notice it and bring it back empty, so I can start clear?

You can either manually delete all the channels, or if you want to start with an entirely empty database then you can just delete the npvr.db3 and it'll create a new one.

Hmm, I'm looking for something in between - I also have a QAM card in my system, and those channels haven't changed.

You can delete the channels you don't need, or device you don't want to use - they'll re-appear but with no channels associated.
