I just installed NextPVR 2.5.9 for XBMC to replace MediaPortal which seems to have codec issues with my HDMI audio on this Win7 32bit Media PC.

  1. Install NextPVR. Done.
  2. Right-Click for Settings to set up my tuner.
    • NextPVR sees them! Check.
    • Go into Device Setup and start Scan Channels
      waiting...
      waiting....
      waiting......
      waiting.......
  3. It get through the whole spectrum and finds nothing.

What is going on here? Has anyone else got this to work with HDHomeRun and Over The Air (OTA) Broadcasts?

I did a search for the obvious: HDHomeRun - but there was not a single thread returned. No one uses this?

Oh, and before I forget: I hate that freakin' CAPTCHA that I have to fill out to become a member. I had to fill it out 4 times, looking at crap I couldn't tell what was what, feeling like some sort of dumb gorilla. So easy a caveman can do it? I don't think so!

I found 20 pages when I searched hdhomerun. Add firewall to your search would narrow it. Or just add the required exceptions NRecord.exe NDigitalHost.exe and NextPvr.exe

Who likes CAPTCHA? However compared to when the forums get flooded with spam or came to a crawl, I'm glad there is something there now keeping the forums usable.

Yeah, there is a few users using the HDHomeRun for OTA. The usual problem for HDHomeRun users are one of two things:

1) Firewall getting in the way of communication. You need to add exceptions to allow nextpvr.exe, nrecord.exe and ndigitalhost.exe to receive data from your HDHR.
2) or, application type may needs to be set to 'Other: ATSC' or something like that in the SiliconDust setup app.

Sorry. It's just whatever the default spam protection stuff is provided by the vbulletin software. I think you're the first user to complain about it though, so it cant be that bad Big Grin

The SiliconDust HDHomeRun has been in use on this PC for about 2 years now. Windows 7 Media Center uses it daily to record the news and MediaPortal got it to work but showed poor performance - hence why I am trying NextPVR.

Are these Firewall settings specific to NextPVR? I ask because HDHomeRun is already set to pass through the default Win7 Firewall. Also, the SiliconDust setup app is already set to 'Other: ATSC'.

I would try these suggestions immediately, but I am at work right now. So, I thought I'd ask questions and get some confirmations about what to try before 5 PM rolls around.

Yes, those firewall exceptions are specific to NextPVR.

I had the same issue with my HDHomeRun - Adding the Firewall exceptions fixed it - channels scan properly now.

So, exactly which files need to be added to the Windows Firewall Exclusions list?
  • NDigitalHost.exe?
  • NextPVR.exe?
  • NRecord.exe?
Any others?

Looks like that was it.

So, why doesn't the installer make firewall changes? ...or at least add a reference to this in the Quick Start Guide?

These firewall exceptions are only required for a couple of tuners (the HDHR variety). 99.9% of tuners do not require the exceptions because they are not network based.

It probably should be added to the quick start guide but it is mentioned in the second post of the "Current Patches and Gettings Started Info" sticky at the top of this forum:

Quote:SiliconDust HDHomeRun
Ensure that you have firewall exceptions to allow NextPVR.exe, NRecord.exe and NDigitalHost.exe to communicate on the network, else the device will not deliver any data. In the HDHomeRun setup choose NextPVR as the Application; if you can't scan for channels, try setting it to "Other - ATSC/QAM" instead.
