So are you running them both at the same time because of slow launching, or just easier to switch with the remote like that? I've not run in a client/server mode, so I wasn't sure how things broke down between the two in regards to power/speed.

I had Them both closing when not in use was pretty quick you didn't really notice a lag
I think from memory I had check for missing recording renamed Turned off on config
Xbmc does the crazy startup where scans for everything but I think you can turn that off also
If want simple rock solid NPVR
If want to fiddle and impress your mates go xbmc

Slow closing of xbmc. xbmc sometimes would "hang" for 5-30sec on closing and I never could figure out why... probably from scanning as stustunz mentioned. So I launch it as a custom task initially, then alt-tab from then with a programmed key.

Ah, I gotcha, you don't always start XBMC, but when you do you don't close it, just switch back to NPVR.

Thanks for the info, I think this really is what would be best for me, at least until the XBMC-NPVR link gets mature.

I tried that program and couldn't get it to recognize my IR program (the DCR-2650 cablecard tuner).
