Is it possible to setup NextPVR as a client to another machines install of NextPVR? If so, how?

I have XBMC installed ont he client right now and it used to work nicely with NextPVR for viewing but suddenly stopped. I reinstalled all but NextPVR and still no success. I know NPVR is working because on the backend I can open it and watch TV on it. My thinking is to remove all the other complexities, XBMC may be pretty but it is also pretty useless since it doesn't properly support lots of the functionality NPVR has, and go direct. Is this even possible?

Yes, simply tell NextPVR to act as a client machine and update the client information for your host as shown on the bottom of this screen http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...on.Devices After that you should disable the NPVR Recording Service that gets installed.

Thanks for the quick reply.

One problem that I am having is that in Windows 8 it appears the Users Public PVR folder is not allowed to be shared. Do you have any recommendations or experience for this?

I don't have it but this should help, it is no longer shared as default like Vista/Win7 http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tip...n-network/

This might be easier, http://windows.microsoft.com/en-CA/windo...ic-folders I don't know if these are the public folder anymore, someone will probably let you know.

I have shared folders on the machine so that is not the issue. It is where the NPVR folder is located. Perhaps I am missing something here as to where the folder should be located and how to move it in NPVR.

Another wiki link http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...alledParts

If you want to move your NextPVR DataDirectory you have to stop all the services, and then update the registry to point to a new DataDirectory

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\NPVR\DataDirectory or HKLM\SOFTWARE\NPVR\DataDirectory

It makes more sense to me to just share the DataDirectory.

the Public folder is not shared by default in 8 - but you can set it up to be shared the same way as any other folder (right click - share)
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

Thanks for all your help and such quick responses!

So I have the share working now but when I go to watch something, all I get is a black screen. I can see the TV Guide no problem but get no picture or sound on any of the channels.

Any ideas?

I got it to work! It looks like the video for MPEG2 needed to be enables as it was not be default.
