Title says it all. We have not been using our NPVR PC playback (it hasn't even had a monitor on it), so I just noticed this issue. Now I'm trying to get it set-up to play through our Samsung TV via HDMI and found this issue.

The Live TV starts and I see video for ~2 seconds, then the screen turns black and the audio and OSD stay on as long as I care to listen (I think the OSD goes away on my PCH's).

I read a few other threads, and tried the Arcsoft H.264 decoder, but that didn't make a difference.

Any other thoughts?

Thanks,
-Brad

If it makes any difference, I get the same results on both digital and analog stations.

Reproduce the problem and post the logs and I'll take a look.

Sounds like it'll come down to the MPEG2 decoder you're using. H.264 decoder wont make a difference with your HVR-2250, since everything coming out of it will be MPEG2.

I had this problem and it was because during troubleshooting I had changed the <AlternateOSDForMissingVideo> setting in Config.xml.

However, to solve the real problem, I had also upgraded from built-in ATI graphics to a 5450 card, latest Catalyst driver, latest DirectX, and then changed that setting back. Also changed from Overlay to WMR9 playback (my box is XP not Win7).

So try checking those items as well.

Thanks Sub, logs attached. You may see a whole mess of messages, I tried ever MPEG2 decoder in my list. The Arcsoft decoder didn't work, it caused an error message to pop up.

Zogg, I'll check for the latest driver for my 6450 card and look for updates to DirectX as well. Do you remember what you needed <AlternateOSDForMissingVideo> to be set to? I don't recall changing that one, it's currently set to TRUE in my config.xml file.

Thanks,
-Brad

I'd change it to false for sure, it seems to match your 2 second comment.

Yep, set it to FALSE. That was exactly my problem.

Thanks all. I just loaded the latest Catalyst/drivers from ATI's website, and looking at DirectX it appears Win7 only has the option of the latest, v11. I may have to check my status of Windows Updates (I hate automatic updates) if it still doesn't work after an NPVR or system restart. Gotta wait for Psych to finish recording before I try it though!
