How to View Live with External Player instead of VLC plugin?

Dear Experts,

I am running Win7 64bit, Chrome for NEWA.
NEWA comes with NextPVR 2.5.9.

In the TV guide of NEWA, if I click "View Live" at left side of the grid, it pops up a VLC window trying to play live TV. But not successful.

How could I get it to play with an external player?
In the "Config", I have checked "Open Stream in External Player", but it has no influence.

Do I have to use Firefox even for View Live with External Player?

Are you trying to view the stream on your internal network or externally? If external, then you need to set the <AllowRemoteStreaming>false</AllowRemoteStreaming> attribute in the config.xml file to true.

The open in external player setting is for the streaming of recordings and videos. Live Tv stream only works with the VLC plugin.

I am actually doing everything only on 1 same computer, before schedule a record, I'd like to click "View Live" to make sure it is working.
If it only works with plugin, I will try IE/Firefox instead of Chrome.

When the pop-up window appears for the live tv..... do you click the play button? It doesn't auto-start so you have to click on the play button to start the stream. I have no issues with it running in Chrome.

When my OS was Win7 32bit, it worked with Chrome the way you said.
But now with newly installed Win7 64bit, after I clicked play, it waits for a while, then shows Error.

My TV device is SGraphRecorder, it has a debug window, it did not doing anything. That probably means the request was not received.
If I play with NextPVR, the debug shows some action info, I can also see buffer file.

Do you see the the VLC controls in the pop up window (play button)?


If you open VLC on the server and opt to open network stream using the format below.....what happens?

http://your-machine:8866/live?channel=# The # = one of your channel numbers.

VLC says:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http://localhost:8866/live?channel=201'. Check the log for details.

But the buffer recording was triggered and left increasing: live-TMNEN-1273.ts
I can play it with VLC even it is increasing the size.

EDIT:
Sorry I didn't do it right (Left NextPVR playing, I did not make this mistake last time), tried again and VLC can play http://localhost:8866/live?channel=201 no problem.

Tried "View Live" from IE v9 and Chrome v25, they both working most of times (IE failed once).

Seems some thing not stable?

Are you running the most recent VLC?

You could try uninstalling and then reinstalling VLC.

There is also an x64 bit VLC..... I looked at it when it first came out and I think it was buggy when it came to the plugin so I installed the 32-bit as well.

I am using VLC 32bit latest though. VLC seem has been always buggy.
Guess I will wait for new version.

But when "View Live" failed, the scheduled recordings were still done correctly.
