Moviesheets using MyVideos - Hack

Hi Fellow GBPVR users!!

I just thought of a nice hack if you are still using My Videos to display Fanart and Movie sheets.

1. You can use thumbgen (or whatever software you want) to create a movie sheet
2. In My Videos create an external player - call it "Info"
3. Instead of sending it to an external media player send it to a batch file which launches a picture viewer with the movie sheet as a parameter
4. Set your remote control to close the program after your press "exit" on your remote control

If it is Picasa or something you can then actually use the scroll buttons to scroll through the different jpgs in that directory - say more fanart.

that doesn't explain why someone is still using that plugin .

jam_zhou what version of it are you running? does it still mostly work? (metadata scraping might have broken, thetvdb.com may still work, their api is backwards compatible i think).

i cant remember the last version I released for gbpvr (version 4???), I came back after a couple years of being gone and rewrote it, but I dont think I released that. That version looked very much like boxee alpha, and then I went away again, and now i'm back again call me mr yoyo.

You did a kind of pre-beta hacked release and offered the source for someone to run with if they wanted but there were no takers iirc. Shame , it was looking really good. We now have a decent movies plugin now and xbmc but I still think there is a place for an all-singing (database driven) media manager in NPVR whereby you can select a recording and then perform an action on it such as watch, delete, lookup metadata, burn, transcode, copy to external device etc. But far easier to say than to do. I'm great at coming up with ideas for other people ....

I still use gbpvr 0.999 or something like that - I think Subs words were "out of warranty". Unfortunately, for MyVideos I don't use it to scrape any metadata hence the reason for the hack. Besides the bling factor the metadata doesn't impact the usability of GBPVR - in fact I like the simplicity. I use it because I can control what player to use for all my media. I like to tinker but my family just like to use!

To answer Reven's question though, I have no idea what version it was but it wasn't the one for the new GBPVR. My guess is this one: http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Plugin/MyVideos version 4.1
