Can't move computer. Not a laptop. My main/only/gaming desktop. Thing is a beast and sits in the corner. My cable comes into basement. The only other option would be to go directly from the 2 way to the computer.

I'm going to try a few set ups I guess. I forget can I tell nextpvr to only scan certain channels?

And I doubt I could put them back. Like I said I can with WMC manually enter channels. I inputed all. It tuned in fine 2-3 it didn't scan. But the 110/113 sets even when entered in manually say no signal.

I think that NextPVR scans the frequencies speciified in files in the folder at Users\Public\NPVR\Tuning\QAM but I am sketchy on the details ... not a lot of QAM over here.

A too strong signal is even worse than a weak signal, it can blow your tuner in worst case so then best thing is to measure the signal strength somehow.

The sony bravia has never has signal issues, in fact ESPN (i get the just basicl $10 cable for local/tbs) because I have road runner 24 is opened which is my ESPN. ON 32" it looks great, on 50" it's black and white/grainy by a lot.
black and white/grainy? that's analog with a weak signal, not digital. digital never looks like that.

depends on whether you're talking analog or digital (QAM). if it's digital, it's already encoded, and NPVR just records the mpeg-2 transport stream as it comes from the broadcaster. if it's analog, yes, then NPVR uses software encoding to digitize the analog tv signal (and requires that you install WinTV7 which includes the needed SoftPVR components)

Oh sorry I know the 24 is analog. Just the 32" has never had issues with signal from analog to digital (qam) where the 50" does.

After testing the USB tuner will not get 110/113 at all. I even put it in the laptop and put it at the source cable. Nada.

So sent it back to seller for refund. Waiting on 1850 from china.

Software encoding is only for analog channels. Digital channels are already MPEG2 encoded so NextPVR will just dump the received stream to the disc as is. WMC remuxes the stream into dvrms/wtv format but does not re-encode the video/audio streams. This is why CPU usage is so low for digital channels.
