Just curious but have you applied the latest patch for nPVR? I had a similar issue with my setup until patched. Also try SAF, K-Lite codec packs.

I second that notion to be wary of WHS. I had a nightmarish experience with 2012 Standard and would not recommend it at this time, can't imagine WHS being any better/robust.

Thanks for everyone's help!

I did apply the patch a few weeks ago, but may have replaced some of the files when fiddling about to get timeshifting to work in xbmc. I'll do it again this evening. I'll check out Alan Birtle's guide then too.

Does the fact that the BBC One HD recording does not play on another machine suggest it is something other than a codec issue?

Maybe ... or maybe you are missing decoders on both machines. Does the file have a size? Not zero bytes? If NextPVR has created a file then it is a near certainty that any playing problems are to do with decoders. But 90 seconds seems a bit off. Record a show or do manual record of a ten minute chunk (move the mouse in the Recordings screen and a menu will appear at the top) see hidden menu at http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...Recordings

If the HD recording does NOT play using VLC then that points to a problem with the recording. As has been pointed out VLC has its own decoders.

I think you should zip and post your logs directory after trying to record a show. And btw: Is Nrecord.exe and NDigitalHost.exe allowed through the firewall?

I'll look at adding a log this evening.

I haven't created any rules for my firewall. Would it affect HD and SD channels differently?

No it should not. Are any channels encrypted?

I don't think any freeview channels should be encrypted.

At least none of the 4 HD channels available.

Let's see if the logs gives any clues.

Ok, here are a couple of files in a zip. I think the record one is from when I tried to record BBC One HD for about 10 mins.
