Sub,

I've just realised I've missed my usual Easter donation the the cause, what is the status of donations? I seem to remember you had some bother a while back with paypal or similar?

Anyway, if all is well I'll hit the donate button...and hopefully this will remind a few others too.

PayPal hasn't caused me any problems recently. Back when they did freeze my account, I did eventually get the money back from them about 6 months later. There main beef seemed to be that I was previously using their variable priced donation system. I've always paid tax on it, but I think they were concerned with the "donation" status. Moving to the currently used fixed price options seems to have resolved the issue.

I usually average about 4 or 5 donations a month, so we're not talking a lot of money. The advertising on the web site usually earns slightly more per month.

I didn't know ads helped that much. I just excluded forums.gbpvr.com from the AdBlock plugin, took five seconds.

Moving to the picture ads six months ago was a bit help with the ad revenue. It got me about three times what we used to get with text ads.

I suggest that we should all click on the ads several times each day ... I assume that makes a difference.

Odd...I don't see any ads, and I explicitly don't run AdBlock on the site.

I appreciate the thought, but couldn't really recommend that. Google would probably investigate the unusual click-through behaviour. Just do what you normally do with ads...ignore them most of the time, unless you see something you're interested in.

Post's like this make me take more notice of the ads I am getting presented with,
Currently a lot of ads for visiting Samoa & Rarotonga.

I went to Tonga at Christmas, so must have googled some islands.
That, and ads for the YouShop service from NZ Post.

Yeah it is a bit spooky some of the ads you get shown. Can definitely see google watching. I googled 'online backup' the other day, and looked at the crashplan website, and now I'm getting a lot of ads for crashplan and other cloud services.
