I've used GB-PVR for many years, but I tried to setup nPVR today. I was not able to get nPVR to detect any channels. The system runs Windows XP x64 & the Windows Firewall is disabled.

It detects my HDHomerun devices:

I tried a scan of the HDHR device and the ATSC device but both had an empty channel list. The HDHomerun software finds plenty of channels. GB-PVR works with the HDHomerun devices as well.

I've attached a log that includes the scan of the HDHR and ATSC device.

You need to add NextPVR.exe NDigitalhost.exe and NRecord.exe exemptions to your firewall.

The HDHR type is kind of mis-named since it is for the CableCard devices. You probably want ATSC

Uh... As I mentioned the Windows Firewall is disabled. I can't add exceptions in something that's not running. Further, nPVR can communicate with the HDHomerun just fine. I watched with the HDHomerun status utility as nPVR scanned the channels and I could see it controlling the tuner and changing the channels.

I'm not sure I'm following you. Those are the names that nPVR gave them. The HDHomerun units I have don't have a cable card slot. I'm using ATSC with an antenna. I tried scanning with the ATSC type and the HDHR type.

Hi Stereodude. You should disable the "Type HDHR" devices. (The tuners in your HDHomerun are identical to those in the DCR-2650 and HDHR Prime, both of which are supported cablecard devices.) What puzzles me is that the ATSC scan in your log appears to have been successful!? The signal was quite strong in a few cases (e.g. Channel 7). Are you certain that no "Type ATSC" device has channels now? Were any NRecord or NDigitalHost logs generated? Next time just zip and attach the entire Logs folder.

If GB-PVR is still installed for backup, then I suggest that you try disabling the tuners in GB-PVR settings.

Are you using the latest HDHomerun drivers? http://www.silicondust.com/support/hdhomerun/downloads/

In the HDHomerun setup, if you selected NextPVR as the application, then I strongly suggest that you try "Other: ATSC/QAM" instead. (Obviously you can't leave it set to GB-PVR.)

Your log shows that the DirectX end-user runtimes are not installed. That shouldn't cause ATSC scans to fail, but it causes me to wonder if any other software prerequisites might be missing (BTW a new version of NextPVR is coming soon that will use Microsoft .NET 4.0 instead of 2.0): http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...requisites

Yes, there really were no devices with channels.

Yes, I am.

This seems to have fixed the issue. I now get channels in a list instead of nothing. FWIW, GB-PVR isn't a valid choice after installing the latest HDHomerun package.

It's a common problem that no one seems to know the reason for: some users can't get scan results with the HDHR Application set to "NextPVR", so they have to set it to "Other: ATSC/QAM" instead; conversely once the scanning is done, some users then report they can't actually watch or record until they set the application type back to "NextPVR".
server: NextPVR 5.0.7/Win10 2004/64-bit/AMD A6-7400k/hvr-2250 & hvr-1250/Winegard Flatwave antenna/Schedules Direct
main client: NextPVR 5.0.7 Desktop Client; LG 50UH5500 WebOS 3.0 TV

I wouldn't switch the application back to NextPVR unless all else failed, in light of whurlston's conclusion in this post: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post457164

Assuming that you don't turn the firewall back on without creating exceptions for the three executables, your next hurdle should be decoder settings.

I only use it to record, so it's working suitably for me as of now. I watch the .ts files on another PC (after the commercials have been cut out) using MPC-HC.
