GetPlaybackPosition - getting updates

I'm using GetPlaybackPostion in my plex plugin, but NextPVR doesn't every seem to post anything other than 0. I think it's because I'm calling it from a timer - which I'm learnt before seems to run in another thread.

What method of timing should I use for a plugin to periodically do things? is needsrendering my only method?

For MB4 in NeedsRendering I use

PluginHelperFactory.GetPluginHelper().GetPlaybackProxy().GetPosition()

And you just keep track of the time (of how often to update something) yourself?

I'm sure now I think about it I remember doing similar in music library

Yes I just update the bar and the time every second (under Adele). You are right I probably got the NeedsRendering() part from ML2 or 3.

Yep, stick it in NeedsRendering, and keep a timestamp of the last check you did, so that you know when it's time to do it again.

I assume this information isn't available for the popcorn hour? So I'll need to keep up with the timer for PCH based use.

To be honest, I cant remember. It's been a really long time since I used by Popcorn Hour. That said, I thought mvpmcx2 was sending me updates of the playback position, and I was supplying when GetPosition() was called.

Ok I'll toddle. Curious sub, what clients do you use now? Small computer or something running xbmc?

I'm just using a signal seat setup, with the computer attached to the main TV in the lounge. Over the last couple of years I have at various times hooked up a client for a few weeks, but generally haven't ended up really using it, so I've eventually disconnected it again.

I'm tempted to pickup a chearp Samsung smart bluray so I can try reven's client.
