Yes, we understand your tuner is not detected. Once we get it detected for you, you will likely have another decision to make, i.e., analog or digital. Your cable coming out of the wall probably has both analog and digital TV signals.

The analog are analog, and work just like TV used to, channels 2 through 75 and 95-98 or something like that. This will be standard definition and cover your local stations and whatever cable package you subscribe to. Typically, "extended cable" will include CNN, Fox, CNBC, ESPN, TNT, USA, etc.

The digital will be mostly high definition and include only the local channels, and maybe the weather channel. These are called QAM for quadrature amplitude modulation which is the scheme that the cable companies use for digital signals on cable. The ones you can get without a cable box are called clear QAM.

If this tuner has both analog and digital tuners, you can probably get both sets of channels, but likely only one at a time. You will set up two tuners in Settings, one for QAM and one for analog. But, first we need to get it detected in NPVR. This may take some futzing as this is not a common tuner among NPVR users.

So it sounds like you're trying to do analog, from a set top box.

To do old-school analog TV in NextPVR you need to get the SoftPVR components installed on your machine. This is pretty straight forward with a Hauppauge devices, where you can install their WinTV software. For devices from other manufacturers you need to jump through a few more hoops. You can find info here: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ugeSoftPVR

Ok this is TOO confusing for one that doesn't know about any of this (or want, too).

It is a "TV Tuner" - a common one by Diamond (like I said TVW750USB) Cable TV is from Comcast. Am I wrong that this is "digital"???

So yeah, NOTHING detects it, but the laptop says it is fine.

Again, when I go to Settings->Devices it is BLANK (not much to zip and attach, or explain how???)

OK YES cable is coming from a (I believe it's called "set top") box. I don't care about local stations - just Comcast "extended" cable.

Thanks for the definitions.

...and the futzing continues.

Isn't this like most TV Tuners users might use? Wow!

- again thx

What version of Windows are you running, and what version of AMD Catalyst Display Driver did you install from the CD? It appears that no Windows 8 driver exists, and your only hope with Windows 7 is version 10.4. However you should be in great shape if your laptop is running Vista, and you should at least see digital devices even without installing SoftPVR components.

I know this is common nomenclature for you, but work with me. I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I've seen "AMD Catalyst" during this install process, but point me how to find this info out.

Is it on the disk?
Is it in "Properties"?
Is the info...who knows???

Nothing?

Should a bought a TV. TV Tuner install/troubleshoot - too much technology to currently be properly handled (just guessing) by the masses.
