Like I wrote earlier if you don't find your channels on the SiliconDust link send it back while you can get money back. It's like not worth your time (or ours)

I would bring that crappy tuner to work, and incinerate it with a laser blast!

But seriously, I ran for quite a while with USB tuners and NPVR.. The only channels I could tune from Comcast were those that were unencrypted, ie the "local channels". So I don't think this will meet your needs.

I'm with Martin. Box it up and send it back. For analog, this thing seems flaky at the best of times, according to reviews.

I understand your frustration. But if you want to use this as an analog tuner hooked up to a cable box as you describe, this whole thing is going to get much worse before it gets better.

Sorry; I'm just being honest.

If you'd like to research other hardware solutions that might better suit your needs, you might try searching the hardware forum.

Well it sure would be nice (with all the info I've given) to have my questions answered.

A) True or False: standard cable TV (w/set top box) is utilizing both "analog" and "digital" signals.

B) True or False: Aside from "local stations", cable is "digital".

C) True or False: TV's these days have internal "tuners" that can scan for analog stations and be hooked up coaxially to e.g. Comcast, etc.

D) True or False: These TV's (w/"tuners") do not have the problems I am having - buying a Diamond MM USB Tuner for my computer.

E) True or False: My TV Tuner is no good.

F) True or False: This is because I have Window 7.

G) True or False: This is because it is cheap.

H) True or False: This is because I didn't understand "NPVR Tech Support Sticky".

I) True or False: This is because I didn't find my channels from SiliconDust link.

J) True or False: This is because I do not know how to create and zip npvr.log.

K) True or False: This is because I do not know how to check for AMD Catalyst version.

L) True or False: My questions are too difficult for anyone to help answer to get to the actual technical reason "TV Tuner NOT Detected".

Of course, I can just go the the Hardware forum...

Contact your local Comcast to find out if analog TV is still being send via coax

D) True or False: These TV's (w/"tuners") do not haven't the problems I am having - buying a Diamond MM USB Tuner for my computer.

False Internal tuners can't play encrypted content directly through coax

E) True or False: My TV Tuner is no good.

Irrelevant if the stations you want are encrypted

F) True or False: This is because I have Window 7.

False

G) True or False: This is because it is cheap.

Cheap price doesn't mean cheap quality

H) True or False: This is because I didn't understand "NPVR Tech Support Sticky".

False

I) True or False: This is because I didn't find my channels from SiliconDust link.

My point was if they aren't there why bother wasting time fixing this.

J) True or False: This is because I do not know how to create and zip npvr.log.

True

K) True or False: This is because I do not know how to check for AMD Catalyst version.

False you are using a Diamond Device

L) True or False: My questions are too difficult for anyone to help answer to get to the actual technical reason "TV Tuner NOT Detected".

True and False You don't know what you want to but we can help with NextPVR but since your device doesn't work with the software that came with it the issue might be too technical to be answered here.

Thank you. It looks like I can now "drill down" on some specifics.

a) contact comcast and find out exactly what is being provided (I thought this was pretty basic and standard) re: analog/digital and encrypted versus unencrypted.

b) I need to google what this means - "False Internal tuners can't play encrypted content directly through coax" (not sure what a "false internal tuner" is)

c) Learn how to and if I can generate a "npvr.log" (how do I do this? My guess, read "NPVR Tech Support Sticky") Like I said, NOTHING shows under Settings -> Device. How do I still (can I?) create a log, since this sounds like it give specifics on what is going on.

d) I just checked my programs - where I thought I saw driver from DIAMOND MM CD install listed (prior to removal and re-install after windows updated .NET Framework) as "AMD Catalyst". I think this oddly is now listed as "Driver Install 64-bit" w/ Publisher: "None", Version: 6.15.10.501 - MAY NEED TO REINSTALL TO MAKE CORRECT

...still working on it and again THANKS

For B - the answer is False. I meant you can't plug your cable into a TV and watch encrypted content either. That is why Comcast provide you either a DTA or a full cable box and a remote to control the box. Some TV's could have CableCard slots but let's no there.

I am wanting to use the provided box (w/ remote). I 'm thinking it's what is needed to get the basic cable package, which is my goal. Is this the same or different from a "full cable box"?

Don't know what a "DTA" is.

On this note, what is the reason to find "my" stations using "SiliconDust link". I just want the TV Tuner detected so I can get what is provided via Comcast basic (they did provide me a premium channel or two).

PS After work I'll call Comcast, get the support/info I can and report back here.

In all the confusion above did anyone ask if Windows actually recognises the device under "Device Manager" in the Control Panel under "Sound & Video ----". If its not listed there then NextPVR wont have it listed. In case of a problem its always a good idea to resort to the supplied software to check it is functioning correctly.

However if you only want to watch TV perhaps NextPVR is a bit OTT and perhaps something a bit lighter would be more suitable. Unfortunately most of the software I was going to suggest like DVBViewer probably wont work in USA!

If you want to use the box and analog out you will need to follow sub's link he posted earlier here http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post461092 and then see if it detects the device.

The reason I posted about the SiliconDust link is that is that shows you what is not encrypted that you can get digitally.
