Question: Option 2 at the above link provides instruction regarding downloading "WinTV7". Then below says download SoftPVR (either 32 or 64 bit).

I take it I just need to download SoftPVR, skipping WinTV7?? Also which "bit"?

Thanks again.

Using the link, Option 2 includes instruction to download WinTV7 and SoftPVR.

I take it I can just download SoftPVR?? Also which (32 or 64 bit)?

32 or 64 bit refers to the version of Windows that you have. I don't recall the easiest way to determine what version you have. Maybe Start>Search and type in "windows version"?

OK thx to Google.com I found my version of Windows 7 to be 64 bit.

Question: download SoftPVR is al that is necessary to provide thread NPVR.log? or also WinTV7?

You need to follow the instructions in Option 2 just as written. This includes downloading WinTV7, as well as downloading the 64 bit batch file. Then you need to unzip and run the batch file. You will not install WinTV7 as you don't have a Hauppauge card. The batch file extracts the needed file(s) out of the WinTV download and installs them.

A bit confusing for me. I downloaded the .exe and .bat file to the newly created folder - SoftPVR - that is located within the NPVR folder as instructed.

I take it I must then install the program (WinTV7) and as instructed - locate it in the newly created folder (SoftPVR).

During install, using "browse", I can't find it!?!

- G

PS I guess I can just install program and then copy the new program folder to within "SoftPVR", right?

I have just checked the bat files on the Wiki are wrong.

Download the file from the Haupauge web site File name: wintv7_cd_2.8a.exe and copy it to the PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\NPVR\SoftPVR folder you have created.

Extract the attached bat file (it has the new cd_2.8a info in - the one on the wiki does not, even though it says it does!) to the same folder and double click it. Hopefully it will now install the parts from the file you need.

You may need to authorize it to run if asked (UAC)

No it will not let you install as you don't have a haupauge card installed
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I think a percent (%) sign should be added to the folder you create like so:

%PROGRAMFILES(X86)%\NPVR\SoftPVR

For those who know, does every system (64 bit in this case) automatically create the environment variable %PROGRAMFILES(X86)%?

Added some clarification (hopefully)

From the wiki:

Quote:Create the folder SoftPVR in the NextPVR program folder (eg "C:\Program Files\npvr\SoftPVR").
For 64 bit, this would be:

Quote:Create the folder SoftPVR in the NextPVR program folder (eg "C:\Program Files(x86)\npvr\SoftPVR").

Then, copy the Wintv .exe you downloaded to this folder.

Then, unzip LaoPan's batch file to this folder.

Then, run the batch file.

Reboot, start NPVR, go to settings, and see if the analog tuner is shown in devices.

Again, thanks for the clarification Mike.

I did create like you instructed - except for the "%" signs.

I created the SoftPVR folder within the NPVR folder. And within SoftPVR is wintv7_cd2.8a (.exe) and the zipped SoftPVR (64 bit) file Lao Pan provided.

Since the "Program Files (x86)" folder is on my hard disk, not sure exactly what occurs by renaming folder to "%Program Files (x86)%" or "Program Files (x86)%"????

The % signs indicate an environment variable, as opposed to an absolute path. Don't sweat it for now.

Sounds like you're ready to proceed.

1) Unzip the SoftPVR batch file.

2) Right click the extracted file and select "Run As Administrator".

3) Reboot.

4) Start NPVR. Go to settings->devices.

5) Repost your NPVR.log file here.
