If you have the folder already created, i.e., c:\programfiles(x86)\npvr\softpvr, (the npvr folder should have already been there), and the two files in the folder, then you have to unzip the batch file, then run it. To run, right click on it, select "run as administrator", say OK to the question box, and it should install softPVR. I don't recall all the details of unzipping, but I think Win7 does it by a right click on the .zip file and the extract. You may have to play with it a bit. You want to have the wintv .exe and the softpvr 64bit.bat file. Run the .bat as described above.

When I double-click or open the zipped file it unzips to become SoftPVR (64 bit) Windows Batch File.

Right-clicking this simply provides "Open" selection.

I take it this is what I do?

That being said it opens the following,

Command prompt window? called -

"C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe"

displays -

C:\Windows\system32>ECHO OFF
*************************************************
SoftPVR installer for Analog devices. (64 bit OS)
*************************************************
Creating Temp folders
Access is denied.
Access is denied.
ECHO is off.
Extracting WinTV installer

It then asks for me to "run". This is the way to run, correct?

Hmm... irritating.

Try this:

1) Right click the batch and select "Create Shortcut". You should now have a shortcut on the Desktop.

2) Right click the shortcut you created and select "Properties".

3) Click the shortcut tab.

4) Click the "Advanced " button.

5) Tick the "Run As Administrator" box.

6) Click OK.

7) Double click the shortcut.

Hopefully that'll do it.

The Create Shortcut option only occurs when I right-click the zipped file - not the unzipped batch file. Do this?

I guess my last question: It then asks for me to "run". This is the way to run, correct? - is not the way, even since it isn't requiring the "run as administrator" option?

- G

BTW I tried what you suggested, however when going to Advanced the "Run As Administrator" is not presenting itself as an option that can be entered as a check (it displays faded or ghosted).

That will run the installer, but not with the elevated priveleges you need.

Try single left-clicking the batch file so that it's highlighted, then right-click. See if more options show up. If so, select "Run As Administrator".

If that works, please disregard my last post.

If you meant do this to the shortcut, no - it doesn't provide more or specifically the "run as admin" option(s). The batch file has even less options and no, not "run as admin".

I think garevelo has not actually extracted the batch file from the zip.

Try this:
 1. Verify the wintv exe and the softpvr zip file are in the npvr\softpvr folder
 2. Right click on the zip file and choose "extract all", do not double click the zip file
 3. Edit the dialog box folder that pops up so it extracts to the npvr\softpvr folder (it will try to put it in a subfolder) or browse to the npvr\softpvr folder and select it
 4. Now, you should have in the npvr\softpvr folder these three files: wintv exe, softpvr zip and softpvr bat
 5. Right click on the softpvr bat file and choose "run as administrator", say yes to the dialog that pops up
 6. A command window will open and you will see messages as the file runs.
 7. Should be OK.

If it runs without "access denied" or other errors, then reboot, start NPVR, go to settings>devices and the analog tuner should be there. It also would not hurt to zip the npvr\logs folder and post after doing this.

I meant the batch file.

Sometimes I don't explain myself very well, so please bear with me while I reiterate.

1) You are using Windows Explorer and are located in the SoftPVR directory you created.

2) You have single left-clicked the batch file (not the zipped folder, but the extracted file) so that the file is now highlighted.

3) With the mouse cursor over the highlighted file, you have right-clicked to bring up the context menu.

If all of the above is true, and you still aren't seeing the run as admin option, I'm stumped. I just tried it on my system and it works as described. I am running Win8 though, and there were some changes to Explorer from Win7. I don't have a Win7 system to try it on. Hopefully someone running your OS version can be of more help. Sorry. Sad

No prob and THX thisheat. We are getting somewhere...mikeh49's last post did work and I re-booted.

Settings->Devices is now showing the analog tuner (thx to ALL)!

Now I've zipped/attached the whole "Logs" folder:

Let me know if you see anything.

So I guess the tuner now has a good possibility to work with NextPVR?

I'm now going to attach the coaxial cable to the USB TV Tuner (which is connected to Comcast provided cable box) and see what we can "setup"!!???!!

That would be a BIG thank you, but I think I'm in for a bit more...

- G

PS Windows Media Center and Diamond MM provided TotalMedia 3.5 still don't "detect" tuner.

I think you are OK for the next step.

You say coaxial cable - is this the cable from the wall that also goes to the cable box, i.e., you have splitter between the wall and the box/USB tuner?

You will need a program guide which will contain your channels. You can get a free trial of Schedules Direct to get started, or use mc2xml which is more complicated. I'd suggest Schedules Direct first. You enter your zip code and cable provider and set up a channel lineup. NPVR then downloads the lineup and the programs scheduled and you link the guide to the channels in the Settings>Devices>Setup Device for the analog tuner, AVIstream Analog Capture.
