If a Windows 8 PC had Cyberlink software installed, one could select their excellent MPEG2 decoder. With a Hauppauge tuner like yours, installing WinTV would give you a MainConcept MPEG2 decoder and the Hauppauge AC3 decoder (AC3 being the audio format used by digital channels in North America). Martin has sometimes recommended a decoder pack that includes ffdshow, but I don't recall its name.

My experience on Win8 is only on a VM so I can't speak to it. I still use the k-lite codec pack but its builders have moved up to LAV from ffdshow and so do I I do use ffdshow for VP8 video though and Microsoft Win7 mpeg2 and h264 decoders.

I just wanted to say that I was having the same exact problem, I felt like I had tried everything, was about to post my details and logs but did one last forum search and found this thread - your tips here solved my problem. The slow channel change was being caused by LAV decoder, I switched to the cyberlink decoder and it is working PERFECTLY now. I'm finally very happy with my NPVR setup (windows 8, HD Homerun). I'm still using the LAV audio decoders which seem to work perfectly fine. For HD HomeRun I installed the beta software, and picked NextPVR for "main application". Added the 3 NextPVR apps to windows firewall exceptions.

Thanks for the great application!
