For the third time I have had to re-install the PC which I use to host NPVR. (Through no fault of NPVR - I wanted to do different things with the box).

This time and the last time, I spent a good while after tuning, mapping all of the channels to their correct UK Freeview numbers.

Thing is - I dont remember doing that the first time - I suspect it may have done it automatically? Is it even capable of that?

If yes or no, from time to time my TV tells me it has foudn new channels and I should rescan - how would I do that on NPVR without upsetting the numbers?

Many Thanks in advance!!

If you do a rescan in npvr and it finds new channels it won't change the numbers of existing channels, it will just add the new channels with higher numbers. A while ago I had an idea while setting up npvr again, I took a copy of npvr.db3 after setting up, renumbering and mapping all channels. Now, if I have to reinitialize th computer I just install npvr, copy back the saved npvr.db3 and import recordings from RecordringBackup.xml and RecurringBackup.xml and everything is back in business again.

NPVR is indeed clever enough to allocate the correct Freeview numbers.

I've had a couple of occasions when it hasn't allocated them properly but I've never bothered to investigate why - I've just given it half an hour, deleted all the channels and rescanned - usually fixes it...

Reddwarf's backup suggestion is a good idea - take a copy of your config.xml too...

Sorry for late reply - I thought I already responded!

Cheers for the advice - I had actually kept a copy of the old directory, but 2 weeks after the event I guess I can live without it!
