I haven't noticed this ability, but I'd love to be able to set a number of recording quality levels that would set the recording bitrate at various levels depending on the show. My wife's tivo had high, default and low. All of my shows record at 10mbps (or whatever the term is!), and I know that my wife's cooking channel shows and my son's cartoons don't need that high of a bit rate, while I look sports and movies to record at that higher level. I could re-encode, and sometimes I do, but that's just time consuming.

Thanks!

If you're talking digital, then NPVR just records whatever rate is coming from the broadcaster and it can't be changed. For analog, the bitrates can be set in config.xml (but yes, only one bit rate for all recordings). The old GB-PVR program did have quality settings; I believe sub chose not to implement user-selectable quality levels in NPVR because analog is much less used now than in the past. Also, storage is cheap. What's better, sub spending hours adding needless complexity to the program that most users will never use, or a few users buying a bigger hard drive?

You might be able to set the SD analog quality levels for recurring recordings in NEWA, I seem to remember enabling that in X-NEWA too.

Interesting on the digital side. I know that you can set the bitrate in the config.xml, but I didn't realize it defaulted to the incoming bitrate from the broadcaster. I have 4 TB of space, but it just seems that no matter how much I have, I always seem to use it up... Thanks for the feedback.
