I'm still confused why NextPVR isn't grabbing another tuner when the first tuner it tries is in use. Looking in the log it runs an executable that tells it that the tuner is in use and is locked but doesn't fall down to the next available tuner, it tries to record on the already in use locked tuner.

About to start HDHR device. Checking status for information sake... (could tell if it's already in use elsewhere)

In this particular case tuner 1 had just been release by NextPVR at 2100 yet it still wouldn't pick it up for this recording. I appreciate that running 2 separate applications for recording is not the ideal situation. If this can't be resolved I guess I will have to face the wrath of the wife after she just got used to using WMC8 after we got rid of our Fios whole house DVR......fun times.

I have a related issue in that WMC and NextPVR do not share a HDHR well. In my case I use NPVR to record shows and would like to use WMC + extenders (which I already have) to watch live TV without the use of a PC at each location. The problem I have is that if NPVR is recording a show it does not lock the tuner, and WMC will simply grab the same tuner and use it, effectively stopping the NPVR recording. This is of course the flip side of the OP issue (where WMC does use tuner locking and NPVR has issues with that).

There is a related post on the HDHR site: http://www.silicondust.com/forum2/viewto...47&t=15563

The relevant comment from Silicon Dust is:

"Re: DLNA and locked tuners

That's sort of why tuner locking exists in the first place. Programs that don't implement yet really need to get around to doing it. There's no inherent reason why MythTV or anything else can't do it, just need someone to actually write it. it's on our list of things we'd like to get around to someday, but given the current development queue, I can't even guess when."

Bottom line is that there is an available method to share tuners between different programs. WMC and HDHR support this (HDHR does return when a tuner is locked) but NPVR (and others like MythTV) do not support tuner locking.

Clearly there are work-arounds like dedicating tuners, or purchasing multiple HDHR boxes and having one for NPVR and one for WMC, but from a user perspective those have significant downsides.

Again, from a user perspective, having NextPVR support tuner locking would be the best solution and a significant advantage.
