video issues

Hello, I am a total newb, so I apologize in advance. Set up an htpc about 5 years ago and now want to upgrade using NextPVR.

Fresh install of Windows XP Service Pack 3 + all updates


I am using the onboard hdmi for video and sound. I am using the latest NextPVR version. I am using SAF 6.2.2 unlocked. I have a regular antenna getting atsc signals through my pvr card. When I try to play some high quality HD shows, its very choppy. I am no good at messing with my video graphic settings. Is there anyone that has a tweak for the CCC? I have version 2009.0730.58.43017

Hi.
Please reproduce the problem and post your nPVR logs.

But my first suggestion - do not use WinXP. Go for Win7 - google for windows 7 sp2 unofficial.

Win XP (VMR9 video renderer) have some issues with nPVR.

I have the same board as this with the 5600 cpu. I moved to Vista in 2008 because of bad video performance, then Windows 8 / 8.1. Also the onboard video is on the limit for HD. I now use a HD7760 Graphics card.

To get the best from what you have, first install the AMD 13.1 or 13.4 beta drivers for xp then untick all the boxes under video options. If you have a deinterlace option move the slider all the way to the right but unticked. Under Gaming change Wait for vertical refresh to always on.

In NPVR you will probably have to set Renderer to VMR9 or VMR9 Exclusive - even if EVR works, with dot net 4 it should, there is no hardware acceleration.
For MPEG2 / H264 - PDVD13 in SAF 6.22 unlocked is the best you can get. For audio use LAV and untick the ones you know you don't use.

As Hoborg said upgrading the OS is probably the best option - I would recommend Windows 8.1 myself, with start8 or similar to get it to work like W7 - and probably a Graphics Card.

Just eddited the above post to correct catalyst version for legacy GPU (pre HD5000) on XP - if you want to change the video settings don't use the beta Catalyst Control Center.
