Sub, not sure if you are back in NZ yet but I wanted to bump this db locking issue for consideration in the next release.

Changing LiveTV Updates has fixed this for me ... no locked database message since the change.

I've seen this too when I had the Live TV EPG update enabled but I didn't realise the cause. I've had to disable the update for a different reason.

It's been off by default for the last couple of years, and not many users have seeked out that setting to turn it on, but long time users can have it still enabled from the early days.

I checked the Config-master-dont-edit.xml and it's on by default?

I'll double check. It's supposed to have been off. If not, it'll be off by default in the next release.

from the wiki

If using a digital OTA EPG, set whether NextPVR should updates the listings while watching live TV. This can be helpful if a broadcaster changes a start time or swaps a show at short notice.

Sounds like the kind of neat feature people might be tempted to enable, thereby leading to a risk of db locking issues.
If the feature is only of use of a select few, why not deprecate the option from the misc tab and leave it in config.xml for those that still need to use it?

I for one have tried to use the feature with other problems resulting. It would be very useful to get working reliably - particularly here in the UK where the BBC still think people who watch Tennis, Snooker etc. aren't capable of changing channel and swap entire evenings prime-time TV when a match over runs. Or if the News is extended - the entire nights schedule is delayed.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I would be interested to know if any UK broadcaster ever actually make last minute updates the EPG. For PVRs they seem to favour "Accurate Recording" which uses various bits in the data stream to override the EPG start and stop times and use the actual start and stop times. You are obviously relying on someone at the broadcaster making the changes at the correct time!

Not sure how last minute changes are but there were definitely changes between a 5am update and the evening schedule - one of the problems using the setting was that there would be multiple layers in the program guide with different start and stop times for the same program and NPVR didn't seem to know which one to use.
