In my quest to learn about using NPVR more fully, I've been looking at how to keep my transcoded videos from disappearing from the recordings database. I can't seem to keep them around - I have looked at the options in config.xml, and I have tried with CheckForRenamedRecordings set to true, and AutoRemoveMissingRecordings both true and false, and neither one works.

Is it possible to keep a recording in the list without using NScripthelper?

Thanks.

CheckForRenamedRecordings should do this automatically if the name is exactly the same, but just with an extension .mp4/.mkv/.avi/.mpg instead of .ts.

Okay, I just tried it. With CheckForRenamedRecordings set to true (and AutoRemoveMissingRecordings also true) "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.2013-01-23.Missy Cummings.ts" was the filename, and was in the Recordings list. When I deleted that file and left behind "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart.2013-01-23.Missy Cummings.m2ts", it disappeared from the list.

Is it because of the extension? I tried an experiment where I renamed a TS file to MPG, and that one stayed around, but when I renamed it to M2TS, it disappeared.

Yep. It only looks for common extensions that people transcode to.

Oh, okay, I didn't realize it was uncommon. I've always used it because it worked well with streaming to my PS3. I guess I can see what other formats VideoReDo will put out and see how they work with my current setup.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but are these extension the correct list that will keep the recording in the list? As relayed in another thread, I've been messing with making mkv files, and when I got the playback working, I deleted the ts file, leaving behind the same named mkv file. But it disappeared from my recordings list.

I experimented with just renaming the ts file itself, and found that mp4 and mpg filenames would remain, but mkv and avi filenames would cause things to disappear.

I'm still running 3.1.1, but I didn't think this was something that has changed.

Thanks.

If a .ts file is missing, it'll check the same name with .mpg/.avi/.wtv/.dvr-ms/.mp4/.mkv/m4v. Case is important. It only looks for lower case file extensions.

Yeah, that's what I did, lowercase names, .mpg and .mp4 stayed in the database, .avi and .mkv disappeared.

It looks like someone else had the same problem with mkv files:

This patch should help. I left "." out of the extension list for mkv and m4v. The renaming for .avi was already working fine.

This Patch seems to have broken the System Plugin - going to the System Menu causes NPVR to stop responding. Put the one from the installer back, and all is back to normal - I don't think there has been any NUtility.dll updates since 3.2.9 was released.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh
