I have a clean install of windows 7 pro 32 bit.
running the most recent 3.2.9 just downloaded.
I have a hauppague colossus card as the only tuner.
I am running composite video from an att uverse box into the card.
I have previous files on this machine that were recorded by gbpvr as well as some tv shows in mp4 and a few other file types.

I am not using the epg, nor am I setting it to record anything by time. I straight up just play a show and set it to record for 15 min to an hour or whatever the show is.

problem 1
no shows play back. even current recordings. it shows stuck on 0:00 with 0:00 remaining.
I tried changing encoders, but that doesn't seem to help.
I tried restarting between changes too but I just get the black screen.
the system still responds and I can back out and select something else, but none of them play.
even a recent recording I made with the latest software does the same thing.
I launched these all with windows media player and they all play fine.

problem 2.
no audio on live tv. however the recordings have audio and I can hear it just fine.
Now, I had to play the files back using windows media player due to problem 1, but I can hear the audio just fine.
I even shared them to another machine and they too played just fine with audio.

problem 3
can't cancel once you set something to record.
that pop up window for setting up a recording cannot be canceled out of. the cancel button doesn't seem to do anything.
I tried it with the remote and I tried it with a mouse click. it just sticks unless I say record.

finally 2 questions
old gbpvr let you set a recording by an amount of time rather than clock time.
does that still exist? is there a setting I can change?

does old gbpvr work on windows 7 with the colossus card? incase I can't figure this out.

If it's playing back fine in Windows Media Player, then it's got to come down to the decoders you're using. Colossus produces H.264 + AAC, so what decoders do you have selected for these? I usually use the Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder or ArcSoft Video Decoder for H.264.

We'll come back to this issue once you get #1 working.

I'm not aware of any issues with this. You'll probably need to reproduce it, and post your npvr.log and nrecord.log so we can check for any errors in the log. (maybe you're recording to somewhere your regular user account doesn't have permission to delete from?)

I'm not sure where you're talking about. Are your talking about the 'Recordings' screen 'Manual-Rec' feature? From memory GBPVR and NextPVR were pretty much the same when you setup a manually scheduled recording, ie with either start/stop time highlighted you can press left/right arrows to move in 10 minutes increments, or you could type a four digit time.

I'm pretty sure GBPVR didn't work with the Colossus devices. I'm not sure if it works on Windows 7 - I haven't run GBPVR in years. It wasn't very well suited to Vista or above.

so changing the decoders to all Microsoft DTV-DVD at least lets me play back some of the files. not all of them work.
I don't seem to have a choice for ArcSoft Video Decoder. MPC is the only other choice.

I attached a screen shot of my current settings.
sorry, I didn't find a place to download more decoders. didn't realize I might need to do that.

I can play back the TS file that next pvr records in, but it has no audio playing back. It has audio through windows media player.
so that is a start.

as for the time thing for recording. in gbpvr, I can do a quick record. set it to record for the next 15 min in 15 min intervals, instead of setting the actual time to start and stop.
did that feature go away?
like I would hit the record button and it would pop a window to say till end of program, you arrow over and it would be 15 min, then arrow over again and it would be 30 min etc..
instead of setting 1:30 to 2:30.

I will deal with the cancel issue last, if I can sort out the rest it will get me going.

oh, I guess one other thing. can it be set to record in MPeg instead of TS? or is that a quality thing?

Can you make a short recording, put it on somewhere like dropbox, and let me know the url? I'll download it and check that it plays fine for me.

NextPVR does this differently. When you hit record in live tv, it schedules the current show you're watching. If you don't have an EPG (ie no current show), it'll fall back to popping up the manual recording popup to ask the details for the recording. You should be using an EPG.

No, it always record .ts files. This is the format used by digital television broadcasts, and native output format of modern capture devices like HDPVR/Colossus etc. Also, .mpg files are old and can only be used for MPEG-2 video, and either MPEG1 or AC3 audio. They can't hold modern codecs like H.264/AAC/HE-AAC/E-AC3 (ie, output form your Colossus couldn't be stored in a .mpg file).

sorry, for taking up your time on this.
After re-reading and doing some more searches, I realized those were not all the codec's I needed.
I found hobring's saf codec pac, and after downloading and installing it, I can now play and hear audio on the recently recorded and live tv.
also most of my old files play again.

there must be some naming convention change however, because a few of my old folders are causing some problems browsing. They pop up a weird back menu that I don't see anywhere else. the only thing I can figure is the name of the folder is different.

I still can't figure out the cancel thing on the recording.
I will figure out where the logs are and post them.

Untick the Settings->Misc2->'show new metadata screens in Recordings' checkbox. That'll work like crap without an EPG.

Reproduce the problem, and post the c:\users\public\npvr\logs\npvr.log and nrecord.log and I'll take a look

ok here are the logs.
I deleted the old ones exept record.
I went in, to live tv, then hit record.
tried to cancel several times. with the remote and with the mouse.
it would not clear the pop up, and acted like the button didn't do anything.
not like it was thinking, where the button was highlighted and stuck. I could move between the ok and cancel the whole time.

I can't see any error in the logs.

I'll have to try this myself. You may be the only person using no EPG and trying to do live recordings inside Live TV, so I wouldn't be surprised if there is something lurking in the cancel functionality there. You can always cancel it from the Recordings screen.

so if I set up the epg, do I get back the record 15 min 30 min etc.. function? or is that just not part of this?

edit to add
Thanks, unchecking that box allowed me into folders that I couldn't get into before. saves a lot of time in renaming stuff.

No, it doesn't work that way anymore.
