Well I finally got a modest new laptop and tried X-NEWA on it, and it certainly makes a big difference in speed. So I am going to get the asus chromebox and setup a new device. I cannot wait for the new version as you said it is even faster. Thanks for all the good work.

mvallevand Wrote:I don't use my RPi for XBMC it was too laggy with the native UI for me, I am sure that web client would be worse. You can tweak things to speed it up, turn off library scanning and disable the xbmc pvr addon which is always running the back ground but it never will be a speed demon. The NMT was an optimized remote client, but I never considered the RPi good enough to bother optimizing as an NMT replacement.

Too answer your question try XBMC/X-NEWA on a real linux/windows PC and you can see the best case for x-newa. fred250's app for Samsung players is using the web client is definitely a good alternative to the RPi

Martin.

My raspberry pi's( have 5 now )
All respond as fast as freds app
what I have noticed is if your network connection isnt perfect the raspberry pi becomes very laggy in x-newa

I'll let you know how my Chromebox works out. I found a reasonable price for Black Friday, but I wish I could get the US price of $104.

I have never noticed any particular delay starting X-NEWA on my Celeron nettop box running OpenElec because I have a much longer delays as my HP Microserver takes 45-50 seconds to respond after WOL as it hibernates. About 70 seconds after power on I see the "Working" popup in XBMC after which the screen goes blank for a while before "Recordings" appear. It seems that the first time that day a client is used the blank period is around 45 seconds but later can be almost zero after a reboot. It would be reassuring if something appeared on screen during this blank period!

Speed is relative to your hardware for sure. I moved my backend to SSD about a year ago for faster startup, and here is a full WOL into web client with today's alpha for faster start up. http://youtu.be/2QoCVwJ5JBI I could probably improve that with a faster backend, my 7 year old Vista machine wasn't near state of the art at the time.

So I got my Chromebox and it is a nice Kodi/XBMX device, unfortunately this HDPVR capture http://youtu.be/4QJNnY9iQUI doesn't do it justice, as it just doesn't handle the video output changes very well. You can certainly see the quick response and the fast start of web client from the Kodi menu at the beginning and again around 2:00. At 2:30 you can see a reboot and allow the HDPVR doesn't capture the boot OpenElec boot you can see Kodi loaded about 12 second later. Hitting the power button on the case to full Kodi is under 10 seconds.

I finally got the box and it is superb. I am just wondering if there is a way around the ~12 second initial delay/blank screen that appears to happen the first time I start the interface. Can I keep the server client processes running the whole time so no startup is required? It seems to happen everyday once we start using the TV in the evening, but then it is quick the rest of the evening until next day.

Otherwise everything is super fast. Thanks for the great work!
