Is a channel list required for LiveTV?

I don't know much about HDPVR, but I just wanted to point out that life is MUCH easier with EPG than without. It's a PITA to schedule recordings without epg, likewise you'll miss npvr's ability to organize and keep track of series, reruns etc if you don't have EPG.

Those logs don't show any problems. Looks like someone watching live tv in time-based mode using the component input of an HDPVR. What do you see and/or hear when you do this?

Thank you. Yes, I agree. If I can get NPVR to work I will setup the channels and EPG. My questions here are more about the *REQUIREMENT* of an EPG or channel lineup. I'm still unclear about this. If it is required I guess I will start the process of manually entering all the channels. So far, I'm not convinced the EPG or channel list is required.

When I click on Live TV I get a black screen and no sound. If I start a recording and wait a few seconds and then "play" that recording I get a clear picture and good sound with no sync problems - it looks like live TV.

I'm not sure but I think this is what WinTV does. When I start WinTV Live TV it says it's "buffering" for a few seconds and then displays the TV show. I can "pause" or "rewind" the live TV show. It seems that WinTV is actually playing a slightly delayed recording. But it makes no difference to me. It looks like TV.

It's strange that I can watch TV through the NPVR recording (similar to how it's done in WinTV) but not through Live TV. Any ideas? Maybe it's a codec issue but I've tried them all (unlocked SAF6) and there is no difference. And why does it play the recording. What codec is that? Also, I can play the stream in WinTV and Vulcano, just not in NPVR. Hmm...

I have one of my HDPVR channels set up for OnDemand, so it tunes to the channel for me but there is no EPG data for it.

In settings>misc (or misc2?) uncheck the box for "use alternate OSD for missing video"
