Files Plugin crashes when there is an ' in the file name.

Hey there, someone just came up with a good idea for the files plugin. Copying to a flash drive and leaving the db intact. You could implement a copy instead of a move and leave the database alone with a copy menu option. I'd use it when I would travel, could take my shows with me on portable hard drive or flash drive and watch them on my lap top. That would be so Cool

I've just can try the process at home of creating an "archive" called Off-line that works just fine for me. I configure usb to have a static drive letter and it runs on clients and the host and I have even plug my drive into a xbmc box and bypass the server when I playback.

If I wanted to just move a file without updating the database, I'd use Explorer.

Not exactly sure what you mean by creating an "archive" Is that what the archive feature in NPVR does? Haven't used it yet so not sure what it does exactly.

I thought about that about 10 minutes after making the post. Some times my thought process comes out before it's totally finished. You can tell that in my posts. :p

I wrote an AutoIT3 script that I wrote that you pass in a directory and a copy of your recording.xml. It will search the directory for each file listed in the xml. If it finds the file, it updates the filename field with the new location. If it doesn't find the file, it puts in a 0. The xml can then be used to import into NPVR.

So, what I do is copy the recorded files to a portable hard drive. Copy the most recent recording.xml to the portable hard drive. Attach the hard drive to my lap top, run the script, run NPVR and import.

To avoid recurring recordings my personal strategy is to never delete files from the database that I want to keep or are marked deleted forever in history.

You'll need to install the Files plugin from the WIKI then look for the last patch in this thread that will let you tag multiple files or directories. You configure destination paths in settings which can be USB drives, UNC paths or whatever. You select each file or directory with S on the keyboard, keeping in mind that if you go down or up a directory level, you loose all the files selected. It's really straight forward to use and takes care of the database management for you. Martin is the developer who took it over from TMRG and Shaggy is updating the skin. They're still working on it to add additional functionality and make it look better but the basics work now. I've been using it for a couple of weeks now. Haven't had any issues with it moving the files around. And I do a lot of recording
