So, deleting the device will have no side effects?

No, if it's a new system you're setting up, then it shouldn't cause any problem. ie, you will loose any channels you'd setup, and settings specific to that device, but on a new system that shouldn't matter.

You can also just delete the npvr.db3, which will cause it to start from scratch.

I went ahead and deleted the db3 file. Not a big deal to redo

I've never noticed any problem with this. I'll check it with his database though.

Just in case, I do mean an external tuner plugin, here is my db3 without guide data.

I opened a ticket with SchedulesDirect. Here is their response

As a workaround, while setting up my first device, I [painfully] selected only the channels I wanted from Setup Device>Import. I let it update, then when i set up the rest of my devices, I simply let nextPVD set them up the same way

The XML service and the JSON service are two different things,
talking to two different servers; the JSON service doesn't store
your channel lineup; the only thing we track is which lineup you
have requested.

It's up to your application to allow you to select which channels to
download.
