Failed Start on Live TV

I have just installed NPVR for the first time and keep getting the error message "unable to find available capture device" for live TV.

I am starting from a clean Windows install to which I add (in order) Chrome, SAF6, Avermedia Hybrid Volar Max driver, WinTV/SoftPVR and then install NPVR. During the installation it opens a CLI window that says it has completed but the window stays open and eventual generates a stack overflow. If I close the windows the NPVR installation continues, apparently successfully.

I then setup up folders, devices and decoders, nothing noteworthy here. I then select the guide, and double click on an FM radio station, all works OK. I then select a digital TV channel and I get the "unable to find available capture device".

If I look through the logs (attached) I think the clue is in the ndigitalhost log where it says:

2015-01-11 18:15:06.765 [DEBUG][5] Failed to start device: 0x800705aa

What does this mean?

Could you restart the recording service or maybe even reboot I am not sure if the recording from the radio tuner ever stopped properly.

Ah, what a good catch! I have had a lot of problems getting the right codecs & output devices so I always started the radio first to confirm everything was working. If I reset and start the live TV first it works but as soon as I start a FM channel the TV then fails. Is there a fix?

can you launch live tv again after the first time? just trying to confirm that the device gets stuck only after FM rather than every time.

Yep, I can switch live channels at will until I select an FM channel, live tv then won't work.

I suspect that will be the answer then, don't listen to FM radio. If that problem isn't happening with a Hauppauge tuner, and isn't stopping the primary TV functions of NextPVR, then I suspect it won't get fixed. It's not up to me though...

I don't have an FM tuner in my machine right now, but I'll try to check this in the next few days, and if I'm able to reproduce the problem, I'll fix it for the next release.

It occurred to me that at least one of my devices actually does have an FM tuner so I decided to give it a try. I added a single FM station to my Hauppauge HVR-850, HVR-1250 and HVR-2250. Only the 2250 actually played the station, I'm not sure the other two even have an FM tuner. All 3 were able to tune TV stations after tuning (or attempting to tune) the FM station.

So from here at least it looks like a device-specific failure.

This system was my first "demo build" just to cut my teeth on it. I actually have a HDHomeRun tuner as well, I'll add that to NPVR and give it a higher priority than the Avermedia tuner to see what happens. I presume if I do not configure any TV channels for the Avermedia tuner, NPVR will only go to the HDHomeRun tuner for TV & the Avermedia for FM radio?
