I was just curious about the possibility of performing deinterlacing on the backend NPVR server. There are numerous cheap front ends but none of them can handle 1080i streams. If the server could perform the deinterlacing then it would open up a ton more client options.

De-interlacing has to happen after decoding the mpeg stream; decoding happens on the client. Your only option to achieve server-side de-interlacing would be to transcode the recording and de-interlace it as it transcodes. ffmpeg can do that, and you could call it from PostProcessing.bat.

I didn't think de-interlacing was such a big deal though... a Raspberry Pi running XBMC can de-interlace 1080i just fine, and that's about as low-powered as it gets.
server: NextPVR 5.0.7/Win10 2004/64-bit/AMD A6-7400k/hvr-2250 & hvr-1250/Winegard Flatwave antenna/Schedules Direct
main client: NextPVR 5.0.7 Desktop Client; LG 50UH5500 WebOS 3.0 TV

It is one of the few though, the OP is correct. Even the new higher end Android VPU have this problem. There is some improvements in Kodi 15.0 for Android achieving software de-interlacing without killing the CPU.

I'd suggest MB3 or Plex as transcoding front-ends to NextPVR.

I happened to stumble on Koying's thread about android de-interlacing shortly after posting this. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Thanks
