In any case, sub, any chance of getting NRecord to log the output of the batch files itself? That would make writing and debugging scripts infinitely easier.

Sorry, probably not at this stage. For now it's just launching the process and forgetting about it, not waiting for it to finish, or monitoring it any way, so it'd require some reasonably significant changes to keep an eye on the output.

Was that video file actually playable? From the log it may seems that comskip does not find muck usable frames. Are you trying to run the free comskip version on a h.264 recording?

Yes, the files are good. I can watch them just fine, it just requires manual jumps at commercial breaks. (Oh, the horror!)
No idea on file type. I don't know if h.264 is even in use in the US yet. How would I determine that?

That would depend on your recording device. How long did you let that comskip run?

I have had a few shows that launch ComSkip, but ComSkip NEVER finishes scanning the file. It just runs and runs until the nightly reboot that I have scheduled on the server.

Are you running the latest version of Comskip? I know that I had problems with it running in an endless loop on some recordings a while ago, but haven't had any problems recently. From the release notes:

That would depend on your recording device. How long did you let that comskip run?

Recording device is a HD HomeRun Prime. Comskip ran for several hours, but it usually finishes a one-hour show in 25 minutes or so. I noticed that if I watched it running in a command window, the percent counter at the far right of the screen was always at 0%. On shows that work properly you can watch the count climbing.

I upgraded to 81_076 a while back. But now the shows that were giving problems have finished up their seasons. Perhaps I'll grab a rerun and see if ComSkip works its magic on them now.

That's a good idea, from what I can see it is most likely the bug in comskip that has struck you

I got caught by something similar when I changed over to a new server.
I had videoredo running in the batch file and forgot that everything runs as the SYSTEM user and VRD needs special treatment to work under this userid.

The secret to getting VRD to run in postprocessing.bat is to remember that normally npvr is running as the SYSTEM user and not your normal user account.
By using psexec from microsofts sysinternals, you can run videoredo as the system user - when you do you have to run through the setup options just the same as when you first set it up as a normal user - I'm guessing that it was stopping there when being run from postprocessing.
